#Russia & #Ukraine - What's Really Happening? [Backgrounder | Feb 23, 2022]

Pan Africanist/socialist Omali Yeshitela gives profound analysis of world economy in terms of #colonialism as means of production - a dialectic that connects entire world.

wrongkindofgreen.org/2022/03/08/wat…
"Liberals & leftists are fighting to protect the
#UnitedNations & [] #NATO as if they were [] legitimate ... the UN was founded for the purpose of peaceful collaboration among the colonizers to maintain domination of the world..."
The Russia-Ukraine conflict "clearly represents a fracture in U.S. #hegemony. It's a threat to U.S. hegemony and it destabilizes the exact/existing kind of of political and economic arrangements that that have dominated the world up to now."

Is it “not clear that 'coloniality' is the cause” of COVID19 vaccine inequality? Maybe not for many (helpful article in that sense), let's discuss.
THREAD🧵#decolonizing starting w political economy: $trillions for North's corporate, R&D, university "capacity" has an origin.../1
First: colonialism was a system of resource extraction, slave trade, and global commerce that enriched the global North and has had long-running harm for Southern economies… inequality in resources is not naturally occurring/2
Empiricaly clear e.g. Nunn "the world’s current income differences could be explained by the divergent effects of European contact globallty, which resulted in a massive transfer of disease, food, ideas, and people.../3

"the concept of “#decolonizing” is being circulated, thrown around, & even abused by many individuals who hijacked it without having direct experience & connection to what many decolonial thinkers call the “colonial wound”.Fascinating piece from Louis Yako counterpunch.org/2021/04/09/dec…
"I think it is absurd to have many privileged and institutionalized Western professors who have no firsthand experience with the colonial wound to give us lectures, workshops, or write about decolonizing this or that matter."
"The colonized, slowly but surely, become at once the dagger and the wound to themselves. We come to such a place where we cooperate with the dagger against our own wounds."

In 2017, I embarked on what I thought was going to be a small side project on who speaks in #geography and from where. I wanted to see how far we are in #decolonizing our discipline.

The project became a three-year undertaking and I was not prepared for what I would find.
2/14 Most of our journals are poorly equipped for #decolonizing knowledge. 90% of editors and 82% of board members come from a small set of Anglophone countries.

Editors and boards are more Anglophone than authors, which does not help in diversifying the origins of authors.
3/14 The situation is even more dire with handbooks and progress reports, where 93%+ authors and editors are from Anglophone countries. This makes agenda-setters a rather homogenous bunch, language-wise.

The #Math that has always worked for science is normal Indian math. But #India today continues to teach superstition-infused European math to millions of students without scrutiny.

A #thread on the urgent need for #decolonizing Indian education, based on #CKRaju's writings.
Normal Indian math accepts empirical proofs. For example '1 apple + 1 apple = 2 apples' is 'empirical' because you can see it.

Empirical (adjective)= verifiable by observation or experience rather than theory or pure logic
But formal european math accepts only axiomatic reasoning (reasoning without facts). Worse, it prohibits empirical proofs.

Axiom (noun)- a proposition which is regarded as self-evidently true.

Think about what periodization really means. Are you upholding notions of American exceptionalism by making that whole unit about the American Revolution or the Civil War? Do linear concepts of time uphold European epistemologies that devalue non-European people & cultures?
Why "Early America"? How "early" are you really getting? How much time do you spend on the 30000+ years of history on this continent before you get to the little blip called European colonization?

1/ This is a crucial time for #OntEd ted: 3 school boards will be hiring Directors of Education - @PeelSchools @tdsb & @DurhamDSB. With any shift in power, opportunities exist for a rise in justice-oriented practices and/or a rise in corrupt, back-door deals.
2/ School boards need to hire anti-racist leaders, *especially* as Directors of Ed.

Trustees - what criteria are you giving to search firms to choose your next Director? Are hiring committees racially diverse including trustees with critical, anti-racist mindsets & experiences?
3/Leadership of school boards MUST BE INTENTIONALLY #AntiOppressive #AntiRacist. It is the only way to close gaps.

So, what might this look like?

Here are some suggestions based on the research and preliminary findings from our current study on anti-racist leadership.

1/ We came together in this piece because our shared history of colonization was completely erased in what started dominating the Global North’s discussion on decoloniality. That other nations also have colonizing histories with different liberatory agendas were simply absent.
2/ Buying into this discourse, reviewers aligned with this myopic grand narrative of decoloniality, and often told us that what we are talking about is just a metaphor, or critical research, but not decolonial, with zero understanding or acknowledgement of our histories.
