1/ Before we dive in, why is it even necessary to harness energy in alternative ways?
It's because turbines aren't optimal in ALL scenarios.
👉 Lack of space (e.g. cities)
👉 Turbulent winds (e.g. cities)
👉 Hard-to-adapt foundations (e.g. buildings)
👉 They're noisy

Right! And there is a long history of research behind them.
They work in tight spaces, turbulent winds, and the sheer stress on foundations is smaller.

I have never been as positive about our #energy #future as I am these days. Not alone do we have the #technologies and the knowhow to #decarbonise but we have massive retooling taking place in #China and the #US around key future energy technologies
Such as #solar, #wind, #batteries, #digitalisation, nextgeneration #nuclear, as well as significant technology breakthroughs in #geothermal, #heatpumps #tidalenergy, #hydrogen
What we do need to change is the negativity around #climatechange. It was thus great to read this article from @greendig criticising the god father of #energyhistory Vaclav Smil

1️⃣ Deciding between multiple alternative #aviation fuels is a complex and daunting task, as all options have unique advantages and weaknesses. #RECCE, our new tool, aims to streamline this decision-making process: recce.aiatools.org
2️⃣ The Resource to Climate Comparison Evaluator (RECCE) allows users to systematically compare 15 aviation fuels across the entire system, from the resources required to produce each fuel to #emissions resulting from infrastructure, manufacturing, on ground operations and flight.
3️⃣ The Resources section displays the cost, #electricity and feedstock required by 2035 to produce enough of each #fuel to fly everyone in the world 1,300km - the average distance flown by each person on Earth in 2019.

1/11 Yesterday’s #Fitfor55 launch press conference was dominated by questions about the social impact. So, I took a bit of time to look at the new measures in the package to support low-income households to decarbonise. @RegAssistProj @RightToEnergy
2/11 First, raised ambition across the package is good for all. Effects of #ClimateChange will be felt by poorest most. Climate ambition is essential but not enough. Climate ambition must come hand in hand with commitment to address structural inequities.

3/11 The Energy Efficiency Directive is the clear winner of prize for social conscience. New provisions include first EU definition of #energypoverty. Oddly it refers to lack of access to essential services but not affordability of those services and excludes cooking needs. #EED
