On February 13 2023, an 18 year old Dalit student committed suicide in Mumbai, India. Darshan Solanki, a 1st year BTech student at IIT Bombay jumped to his death from the 7th floor of his hostel. Students at IIT Bombay, who have been closely tracking the circumstances behind
his suicide, and the general alienation that Bahujan students face – more specifically those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes – say that Solanki’s death is an “institutional murder”. One alumna, who knew Solanki even before he joined IIT,has claimed
social media that Solanki had been struggling with caste discrimination. Darshan's family reported that the behaviour of the high-caste hindu students towards him changed as soon as they became aware of his Dalit background, and that they misbehaved with him because of his caste.

Dear @meenaharris , Your claim of being Hindu is false and irreligious. According to Agama, Smritis and Shastras you have to have a caste to be a Hindu. Your grand father, father and husband all are black. Like MLK, you are “untouchable.” Don’t interfere in our internal matters.
Caste is endogenous & hereditary transmitted. You just can’t acquire a caste. You born in it. It’s based on patriarchal linage. We are not interested in your grand mother’s caste. That’s inconsequential. As we can’t place you in any caste groups, hence you are not Hindu. Period.

The Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) has filed a lawsuit in the Federal District Court of Northern District of California alleging caste discrimination on the part of Cisco and two of its Indian origin employees @CAgovernor
The suit alleges that a Dalit employee at the IT company (referred to as John Doe) was discriminated against by two of his fellow Indian origin colleagues, Sundar Iyer and Ramana Kompella beginning in November 2016.

2/7, It shows little has changed in US over decades. But we in India, the self-proclaimed world's largest democracy, shouldn't be surprised. We have a Constitution that promises equality to all irrespective of caste & religion, but our system denies it everyday.

3/7. George Floyd's murder reminds me most of Pehlu Khan, Akhlaq, Tabrez Ansari, Alimuddin Ansari. In India, lynching of Muslims has become so normalized that it doesn't even lead to outrage anymore. Its openly celebrated& murderers are garlanded by ministers.

Who is paying the price for #intercaste marriages in India? And why is this being touted as an anti-caste strategy? Questions and Thoughts.

Also note that I'm not against #intercaste marriages. Ideally, we should all get married to whomever we please as long as they are an adult and are consenting. If you conclude that I'm casteist or pro-endogamy from any of my tweets, it's on you.
Let's first understand that not all intercaste marriages are problematic to India's casteist society. Many #intercaste savarna couples lead happy lives while telling the world how progressive their families are. Their weddings are pretty fun too...
