I’m going to correct some of the misinformation that’s out there by using the correct wording:

1) Lecce is INCREASING the class average in gr. 9-12 from 22 to 23, which will still mean classes of 35-40 in High School and more lost jobs.
2) Lecce is allowing parents to go through a tedious process to opt their children out of the 2 MANDATORY E-Learning courses.
3) Lecce is REDUCING the funding for Special Education to allow funds for STEM & Mental Health. (All valid expenditures but each should have their own $)
4) Lecce is REDUCING the budget for education and ADDING the Child Tax Credit to the numbers to make it LOOK like it’s increased.
5) Lecce is REDUCING the ‘per student’ funding by $54.

Oh you have got to be kidding me. I just can’t. This guy is insufferable. I’ll bet he’s there just to ensure they’ve all got their wills up-to-date. And to drag along your own photographer so you can leverage social and drive media sentiment, he’s just so savvy.
And this is just a another day at the office. I mean it’s been a busy week on the news as far as education goes, and I’ve heard next week should be interesting, but our little prince is also a fiddler would like to play a song while everything burns.
And because I respect the democratic process so much I just have to sit here and watch this horseshit? I suppose so, huh? That’s how civilized society works. It all the #NonnasforLecce have ever wanted. #onpoli #cdnpoli #cutshurtkids #osstf #etfo #upsidedown #shameless

Hey #OntEd and #OnPoli, can we talk? I see a lot of people wondering why we're striking, what's it all about, is it all about the money, and so on, especially with an all-in one-day strike next Friday. Once I'm done I'll say Ask Me Anything. Let's tackle that money one first.
No, it's not all about a raise. 2% is great, and would be about in line with cost-of-living, and that's a basic thing that every single person who earns a wage should get.
Government wants to give us 1% according to Bill 124. For me next year, this difference would amount to about $750 a year, or about a large coffee from Tim's a day.

Come visit a real public school, @Sflecce. Come tell newcomer refugee students why their ESL support was cut. Come tell children with learning disabilities why their special education reading classes were cancelled. Come tell kids why the courses they need to graduate were cut.1/
Come tell children with #Autism that their safety and academic success at school is not as high a priority as tax cuts. Come tell children in crisis that they will have to wait even longer for assessments and services, and that it’s okay if some of them die while they wait. 2/
Come tell our children that they will have to just learn to deal with not having their needs met, and that escalation and classroom evacuations are just part of how we do school now. Come tell them that walking the halls with an EA is the same thing as receiving an education. 3/

So much of these negotiations/strike talks have been focused on numbers - specifically, 1% or 2%. In reality, that’s not even the focus of what teachers are fighting for. In order to highlight why I am striking, I wanted to provide some other numbers that are meaningful to me.
3.5 - number of years I’ve been teaching in the same grade, same school
102 - number of students I’ve taught in these 3.5 years
6 - number of students I’ve taught with complex medical needs that I’ve been responsible for meeting while at school (epilepsy, diabetes)
5- number of epileptic seizures that have happened in my class
27 - number times a diabetic student has had their numbers drop below 4.0

This is an EXCELLENT letter written by a teacher trying to explain our side.
I’ve 20 yrs.

Here we go.
Having entered the 15th year of my career, I am exhausted & will no longer entertain people who paint ALL people in the profession w the same brush, blame teachers for snow

days/no bus days (as if we get a say!), who think just because 30+ yrs ago if you had 45 kids in a class everyone turned out fine reminder...you could HIT kids at school in that timeframe & we did NOT integrate special needs/learning needs/mental health needs then... trust me 2/
I know from experience bc I got the strap a few times...but now if a kid asks for a hug, I am supposed to say no).

I keep saying it... but for those of you that begrudge a teacher their calendar, we do not set it... . For those of you that say... if it is "for the kids, 3/

Let’s play a little game in the comments and caption this photo of everyone with their hands raised. I’ll start. #CutsHurtKids #OSSTF #ETFO #etfostrong Image
Raise your hand if you think that I’m as dumb as the silly grin plastered across my face at all times.
Raise your hand if you think I’ll use this photo as propaganda in a cynical tweet that exploits your enthusiasm to show respect to elected officals whom you assume to be working in your best interest.

Today was my son’s #FirstDayOfSchool Instead of the public school down the street I drove him 40 minutes to a private school for children with disabilities. With a ratio of 30:2 (30 four year olds!) with NO supports public education is out of the question. #CutsHurtKids
The past week has been hard. On Thursday I spoke with the public school and told them that no, my son would not be attending the school with the rest of his community. Today I drove in the opposite direction of the children that would have been in my sons class
I do not feel he could be safely supported with only 2 adults for the entire class. He has ASD, PICA, is non-verbal, is not toilet trained and a flight risk. There are two other high needs kids in his class, 27 other NT kids and no EA. #CutsHurtKids

NDP leader @AndreaHorwath: In Peel, where 369 lay-off notices have gone out to teachers the superintendent of human resources says this is not normal. This is not routine. This is real and it is bad. Does Ford think he’s not telling the truth? #onted #onpoli
Horwath: Students & their parents just don’t believe Ford.
They see the plan for larger classes & fewer courses. They hear his overheated rhetoric and they don’t see a plan for education.
They see a recipe for cuts in the classroom and chaos in schools. #onted #onpoli
Horwath (unable to get an answer from Ford, turns to Minister of Education): Does the Minister of Education consider it a job loss if a teacher is laid off from a full-time position but is offered occasional supply teaching instead? #onted #onpoli

NDP Leader @AndreaHorwath to Ford: Parents & students looking for a vision for education in #budget2019 were sorely disappointed. While Ford focussed on the licence plates and easy access to booze children got cuts. Why are you cutting support to our schools and our kids? #onted
Horwath: The Ford govt is making cuts in the classroom. Just Friday we learned school boards in Hamilton, Windsor, Guelph and Waterloo have sent out 300 redundancy notices to teachers. #onpoli #onted #studentssayno #HamOnt
Horwath: The school board in the Education Minister’s own riding says smaller schools will struggle to provide not only specialized classes but “even the core curriculum required to graduate.” #onpoli #onted #cutshurtkids
