This week it was Policy & Sustainability Committee at @Edinburgh_CC which is good news for fans of monitoring and evaluation, workers' rights, and long twitter threads 🙃

First up, we heard from @StreetAssistEdi about the important work they do to support people and reduce vulnerability at night in Edinburgh. They spoke about how the city could benefit from a Night Time Economy Coordinator - a key pledge from the @EdinburghGreens manifesto.
Next, reps from @unisonedin and @ScottishTUC Edinburgh spoke to us about the ongoing crises in Edinburgh's adult social care provision. It was a really powerful deputation which spoke about the (understandable) lack of trust from workers and residents towards the council.
It was a real honour and privilege to serve on this panel alongside colleagues @HarryBeag of @FailteFeirste, @DAVIDHU92870388 of @socentni, Brendan Murtagh of @QUBelfast, and Sarah McKinley of @DemocracyCollab. We aimed to produce recommendations commensurate with the challenges.
There are a number of people to thank as part of this process, not least the supportive officials at @CommunitiesNI, including @SRJFleming and @L1Gallagher, and the Secretariat who supported our work, including @Sean_Byers84 of @TrademarkBF and Paul Roberts of @devtrustsni.
But a special thanks has to go to @DeirdreHargey, who clearly commands great respect from Northern Ireland communities and officials alike. The panel and the report literally wouldn’t exist if it hadn’t been for her commitment and visionary leadership in calling them into being.
On October 27, the Independent Advisory Panel on Community Wealth Building to the Minister for Communities @CommunitiesNI delivered its report, ‘Recommendations to Advance Community Wealth Building in Northern Ireland’. communities-ni.gov.uk/news/hargey-we… 
The report sets out a comprehensive framework for advancing #CommunityWealthBuilding and building a more democratic, just, inclusive, and sustainable economy for all communities in Northern Ireland, on the basis of a whole-of-government approach. There are 26 key recommendations:

1. Adopt, deliver, and resource a social economy strategy for Northern Ireland
2. Establish a CWB/social enterprise fund
3. Review and realign existing financial levers to support the social economy

Local/regional/devolved govts need to lead the effort to build a new economy. Many are already engaged in progressive local economic development and #CommunityWealthBuilding.

1. Oppose austerity. Commit to campaign publicly against government-imposed cuts.
2. Deliver a local Green New Deal to decarbonise the city’s economy, including the recommendations in @MerseyLGND's local manifesto.
Much to commend in #UK2070 work. Clearly a serious academic type regional planning orientated contribution to issues of regional inequality and what we need to do about it. Good stuff! However, whilst extensive, there are some serious omissions/lack of emphasis.

💷Financialisation with wealth extraction? The great 'unleveller' of the UK economy. This is a hugely significant omission by #uk2070? Needed bravery here. It hasn't been.

The first thing to say is that @duncanrobinson & @econcallum are to be congratulated on a serious piece of analysis, which avoids the parade of dismal, lazy clichés that we see in so many other publications. Serious political journalism shouldn't be so rare, but it's good to see!
There's a useful analytic frame in dividing Labour's political economy thinking into fiscal policy, monetary policy, and structural reforms. And it's right to say that the third of these will actually be the most significant.
