šŸ§µSensible Transfers: #cafc

League One outfit Charlton Athletic are next up

Here are 5 players they could look at based on YOUR suggestions

Comment what team + 5 positions I should do next! šŸ‘‡ Image
CB: Nando Pijnaker

A player I recently featured in my Transfer Recruitment Doc (pinned tweet), New Zealand international Pijnaker has had an exceptional season in Ireland

A progressuve ball carrier, the left sided centre back is just 24, so has room to develop Image
CM: Archie Collins

Collins played almost every game for Exeter last season in League 1, and he is now available on a free transfer

At 23 heā€™s another that could develop nicely, as well as already having League 1 experience. Capable in a variety of roles also has an eye for goal Image

šŸ§µ I try to watch as much of the Chelsea Loanees as I can, but I can't watch every minute, so I reached out to one fan of every club with a Chelsea Loanee, to get the best opinion on their season...

Here we go: [A THREAD] šŸŖ”
Nathan Baxter: 8.5/10

After starting as 2nd choice, Baxter came in & solidified a nervy defence.

Natural communicator, good with his feet & excellent shot-stopper, Baxter quickly became a fan favourite.

His ball playing ability, short & long, was crucial to our system. #hcafc
Nathan Baxter (continued): 8.5/10

Baxter has a great future.

He has the potential to become Chelsea No. 1 in the future, but Iā€™m not sure how long he will wait. #CFC

He seems very ambitious & he wants to play. If he found the right club, I think he'd leave his boy hood team.

Queens Park Rangers 2020/21 financial results covered a season when they finished a creditable 9th under Mark Warburton, their highest in the Championship since 2013/14, though the campaign was badly disrupted by COVID. Some thoughts in the following thread #QPR
#QPR pre-tax loss narrowed from Ā£16.4m to Ā£4.5m, despite revenue falling Ā£3.8m (21%) from Ā£18.3m to Ā£14.5m, as profit on player sales rose Ā£11.7m to Ā£17.6m and there was no repeat of prior yearā€™s Ā£4.5m write-off of previous training ground development.
#QPR Ā£3.8m revenue reduction was entirely due to the COVID driven Ā£3.8m fall in match day income from Ā£4.0m to just Ā£207k. Broadcasting rose Ā£0.1m (2%) to Ā£8.6m, including iFollow streaming income, while commercial was flat at Ā£5.8m, thanks to furlough payments.

After I put together a thread looking at the financial trends in the Premier League over the last 10 years from 2011 to 2020, a few people asked me if I could do the same for the EFL Championship. So here are the finances for Englandā€™s second tier over the last decade.
This analysis comes with caveats, as not all Championship clubs published accounts in the last decade, e.g. Derby County in 2019 and 2020. Also no accounts for clubs in administration, e.g. Portsmouth (2011 & 2012), Bolton Wanderers (2018 & 2019) and Wigan Athletic (2020).
Nevertheless, the themes and trends can still be highlighted, including the impact of COVID in the last three months of 2020. We will also feature some comparisons with the Premier League to illustrate the immense differences between Englandā€™s top two divisions.

Charlton Athleticā€™s 2019/20 accounts covered a season in the Championship following promotion from League One, but they were then relegated after finishing 22nd. New owner Tomas Sandgaard said it was ā€œa difficult one for fans, as they feared for the future of the club.ā€ #CAFC
#CAFC have faced many ownership issues, starting with the deeply unpopular Roland DuchĆ¢telet, who bought the club in 2014. Six years later he sold Charlton to East Street Investments Limited, though it was not long before their owners, Tahnoon Nimer and Matt Southall, fell out. Image
EFL said that the ESI takeover was not approved and imposed a transfer embargo due to funding issues. In June 2020 ESI was taken over by a consortium led by Paul Elliott, but they failed the Owners and Directors test, leading to Thomas Sandgaard acquiring #CAFC in September 2020.

Alright, Addicks, who wants a Range Rover update? (Is Range-Rover-Gate too much?)

Well, there are still at least two RRs on the loose, one in Chris Farnell's possession and the other with Dave Jones.
#cafc #SaveCAFC
Matt Southall (remember him?), as director of ESI, sent letters to Farnell and Jones demanding the Range Rovers be returned to The Valley.

Southall hired a Midlands-based Logistics company, to collect the cars.

Now is where things really get interesting...
#cafc #SaveCAFC
Two employees of the logistics company went to Dave Jones' house to retrieve RR1.

They spoke with Jones for 45 mins. He refused to return the car, saying he was buying it from Elliott (who of course, is not an owner/director of ESI/CAFC per Companies House)

1 like = 1 ridiculous/scummy/whatever moment from Matt Southallā€™s eleven week Chairmanship of #cafc
Matt Southall becomes #cafc Chairman following ESIā€™s ā€˜purchaseā€™ of the club at the start of January. Southall preaches sustainability and being financially prudent. Nothing wrong with that, right?
Whilst Southall makes all these comments about the club being sensible financially, he decides to give himself around Ā£100k in cosultancy fees, lease a Range Rover for a similar price and spend Ā£12.5k a month (two year lease) on a flat using the clubā€™s credit card.

@pnefc šŸ’¬LB on new contract: ā€œIā€™ve had some good, positive conversations yesterday and this morning, so weā€™re nearly there. Just one or two small adjustments and weā€™re there. Itā€™s positive and Iā€™m pleased with what Iā€™m hearing.ā€ #cafc
@pnefc šŸ’¬LB: ā€œThe most important thing for me is to concentrate on the game, so thatā€™s the priority over the next few days. Once the small things are sorted out, then weā€™ll get it sorted.ā€ #cafc
