Dear DCRoadTripper,

CIA #Museum is not open to the public, so you can’t come here in person. However, Washington DC is home to @smithsonian’s wonderful museums [free & open to the public!] & 2 museums run by our colleague’s @FBI & @NSAGov.

#AskMollyHale
If you contact your local congressional representative, you can look at arranging a tour @FBI Headquarters of its exhibit, The FBI Experience: bit.ly/2F5oPWE

And @NSAGov has its very own National Cryptologic Museum: bit.ly/2FbzuiK

As for CIA, although you may not be able to visit our museum in person, we do have the next best thing: We can open our virtual doors to you!

Dear Bookworm,

To get a CIA Library card, you’ll need a security clearance.

It might look like a modern public #library, but among the books you’ll find volumes most Americans will never see. The literature of secrets

Dear Fallen Stars,

In our HQs lobby, a wall w/black stars carved into white marble stands as a humble memorial to our fallen officers

There are currently 129 stars; 91 are unclassified. Out of those, 11 represent women

Officially, 1st female CIA officer to die in the line of duty was Barbara Robbins. She was killed in 1965 terrorist bombing of US Embassy in S. Vietnam

She’s the youngest CIA officer to receive a star on our Memorial Wall, at just 21 yrs old

What many CIA history buffs don’t know is the 1st CIA officer to die while working for the Agency was also a woman: her name was Jane Wallis Burrell

She was returning to Paris from a trip to Brussels (1948) when the flight she was on crashed

Dear Ageless,

We recently presented at #SXSW & this was the most frequently asked question.

At CIA, there is NO strict upper age limit for #employment.

Hiring decisions are made based on a review of the whole person.

bit.ly/2FjYrcg

#AskMollyHale Image
You can join CIA right out of high school (18 is the minimum age for employment). Most #jobs require at least a bachelor’s degree, but life experiences are always taken into consideration.

Our primary requirements are:
- US citizenship
- High school graduate

#AskMollyHale
Although not required to get a job @ CIA, military experience & advanced degrees are highly valued.

Integrity, character, & patriotism are a must. Fluency in a foreign language is a plus.

Good luck!

There’s no “right” college major, background, or skillset to work @ CIA. We’re a very diverse workplace, both in terms of the types of jobs we staff as well as the people we hire. The best advice I can give is do well in whatever you’re most interested in @ school.

#AskMollyHale
A good place to start learning about CIA is our website. There’s lots of great info hidden in the nooks & crannies. Poke around & see what you can find.

Whatever career path you decide on, good luck in all your future endeavors.

Dear Film Buff 007,

All Hollywood films & TV shows, of course, take liberties when portraying CIA. I can’t generalize & say “this film is accurate” & “that film is total bunk.” They all probably contain some elements of truth & fiction.

Insider tip: A Hollywood habit that drives everyone who works for CIA bonkers is calling us agents

In the real-world lexicon of spies:
Americans who work for CIA are called “officers”
Foreigners who give us intel (the actual “spies”) are “agents”

Dear @MaceTheSpaceDog,

Driving an Aston Martin, of course. Just kidding!

The best thing about working for CIA is being part of a mission bigger than yourself. You’re part of a team, a family, even if your role is less traditional, like “Molly Hale.”

bit.ly/2IwaoiH Image
The people who work at CIA come from all walks of life & experiences, & we have almost every job imaginable here, including:

- accountants,
- mediators,
- doctors,
- photographers,
- & even hairdressers.

That’s one thing about working at CIA that many people don’t realize: Once you become a CIA officer, the opportunities are endless.

Dear Plenty of Phish (and all you lonely hearts out there),

It’s #ValentinesDay. If you, like many Americans, are looking for love online, be careful.

DO NOT give your personal info to anyone on a dating site claiming to be a CIA officer.

bit.ly/2EcH4td

#AskMollyHale Image
Best case, they have an overblown ego & bad judgment; worst case, it’s a scam designed to steal your financial information.

Our security officers have been hearing about this particular con. It’s a type of #phishing scam.

Don’t take the bait.

#AskMollyHale
We may be one of the world’s most secretive & mysterious workplaces, but CIA will never solicit info from you in this way.

If you come across this scam, contact local police or @FBI.

Remember: If it seems fishy, it’s probably #phishing.

This week’s question was sent by @MLMikeMilli: “What are a couple of the biggest differences between the @FBI & the @CIA?”

Short answer: CIA’s mission is to collect foreign intelligence overseas, where as FBI addresses domestic issues.

bit.ly/2RO3R1Y

#AskMollyHale Image
CIA doesn’t have law enforcement authority like @FBI, & we don’t collect information concerning the domestic activities of US citizens.

We do, however, have our own federal police force called Special Protective Services who protect CIA employees & facilities.

#AskMollyHale
FBI is a law enforcement agency. They investigate crimes on US soil & against US citizens abroad.

We frequently work closely w/ @FBI, but our roles in keeping America safe are very different.

Hope that helps clarify things!
