A few days back I went to a shop to buy something. This was late in the evening. As I paid the shopkeeper, I heard him say the word "Bismillah. I knew this was his Dislaaf. A shopkeeper should make his Dislaaf within an hour of opening his shop, not so late in the evening.
My friends, the economic situation is going from bad to worse. The money has simply dried up. It's like someone collected all the money from Afghanistan and vanished. #AshrafGhani and his gang took some, but they couldn't have taken all the money. Money is as valuable us gold now
Here is what #AshrafGhani did to #Afghanistan. 1) he spent years centralising the government and handing over offices to diaspora from the west. Stripping the ministries of work and their memory. All the heads have fled the country and now it’ll take years to restart [1/4]
2) He had months to realise he was losing the war and discuss a democratic transfer of power to a third body but he delayed it till the eleventh hour only to flee. Now the #Taliban do not have any formal body to talk to. [2/4]
3) He caused the disintegration of the Afghan Defence Forces. This is will be the darkest of his legacies. An institution that had trillions of dollars invested into it is now no more. [3/4]

1/A thread on @ashrafghani #ashrafghani, the former President of #Afghanistan who recently fled the country. I worked with him very closely for 5 years (2007-2012) before he was President- writing speeches, researching Afghanistan etc. At that point I knew him very well.
2/Most of what is out there on #Twitter so far tends to fall into 2 camps: the “he ran off with bags of cash narrative and is a traitor” or “he tried to do the right things but was a product of circumstances.” #Afghanistan #Taliban
3/ It is the Russians that are pushing this idea that he ran off with bags of cash- which the Western press is now amplifying. No evidence for this yet except unknown “witnesses”- and the Russians have a clear motive to discredit the American-backed regime.
