I’ve tweeted a lot about the Dungee/Dungeys, my mom’s paternal side which is the Pamunkey/Mattaponi line that I’ve grown up knowing. But unfortunately, African American family history is notorious difficult to research. I’ve been working on mine for many years.
Most of my Black lineage was FPOC which helps cause there are records. Abt a year ago, I was contacted thru #ancestry by a DNA cousin. She enlisted the help of a certified genealogist. Here’s what we found.

If you got a DNA test for Christmas, I'm urging you to reconsider taking it. You're potentially exposing yourself to massive personal and financial risks.

Your immediate financial risk is if the DNA test reveals anything about your predisposition to certain conditions, when you apply for health insurance, the company can reject your claim if you don't reveal those conditions.

I've seen many different spellings over the years in my research including, Knochamelie, Knockamellie, Knockamely all of which makes research *interesting*

Knockamillie (modern spelling) as per the road name has evolved from the Gaelic 'cnoc' or 'cnocach' meaning hill or hilly and 'maille' which I have seen translated as cape or promontory which would fit with its elevated peninsula location overlooking the Clyde (red map pin) /3
[Thread] Like many of you, I fumbled my way into #GeneticGenealogy which uses DNA testing in combination with traditional genealogical and historical records to unlock hidden connections & answer questions. It's what helped answer this question: who was my 2nd great grandfather?
My great grandmother on my paternal side was Dora Cloud (1890-1975) and she was an Estelvste - an African Native American - of the Creek tribe. Here she is visiting her mother's grave with my wee grandfather is tow (look at her knees).
Dora was a mixture of two sparsely documented groups from an area - the Indian Territories - that didn't keep the best records. Raised by a single mother who passed way too early, the only record of her father was on the Dawes Final Rolls: John Whistler.

Believe the current year was worse than the previous, even when they said the same thing the previous year. In general each person marks each year in relation to their own life. 2019 wasn't as positive as 2018 was but each were better than 2017.
In 2017 I had a difficult work load, a back injury and the loss of my adoptive mother who was the last of my adopted family. In summary it was pretty negative except for a Black Friday sale on @Ancestry DNA tests that changed my life.
