1) Enables more frequent casual communication: Meetings are a playful event, not another chore that has been added to one's calendar.
2) Foster serendipitous collaboration: It's all about fun because the most #creative moments happen exactly when participants are embedded in a playful collaborative space where they can explore ideas, create new connections and #brainstorm freely.
Last week I helped to launch the United Nations Development Programme @UNDP’s annual innovation event #IID2021, using an #ExperientialFutures process and format created for the occasion. 🧵
In January I was asked how experiential futures might be brought to bear for the Opening Session –– a panel conversation on global development's futures, live in video chat (due to Covid the whole event had to be online), with the UNDP head and invited speakers around the world.
Mission accepted: I proposed to interview all the panelists in advance, one on one, then design & send an artifact from the future to each, to arrive at their homes the week before the event and perhaps help breathe some dimensionality into our talking-head squares! #ZoomFatigue

@UoWMediaFilm Together over the last year, we’ve found that nothing compares to face-to-face interaction as we had to turn to virtual interaction instead, so we were interested in the effect this has had on student mental health. #UoWMediaCon2021 #Zoomaversity (2/10)
To first investigate if there has been an effect, we sent a survey to our peers. 42.9% of students stated their mental health has been impacted by online learning “a little”, 38.1% choose “majorly” and 0% said there had been no change at all. #UoWMediaCon2021 #Zoomaversity (3/10)
A thread on something that is really concerning me. The level of stress and overwhelm I'm seeing in educators is at an all-time high. We need to talk about emotions, vicarious trauma, and #highered leadership.

I want to start by saying that many professions, obviously, have a higher likelihood of vicarious trauma, and that needs attention, of course. I work with educators, so that's my focus. I'm not discounting any other field, just focusing here on mine.
I'm also going to try to come at this by discussing two levels of what I'm seeing in educators: 1-a more generalized experience of picking up other people's emotions and 2-a more specific and serious experience of vicarious trauma.
Talked to some teachers yesterday about how we can build asynchronous approaches into synchronous sessions. Curious if anyone is doing this or has any ideas?

Some context: many educators are being forced to offer sync sessions, but they recognize this is not ideal. So trying to help folks work within this constraint...also thinking about #ZoomFatigue for both teachers and students.
We talked about keeping the Zoom running and giving students an assignment in the middle of the sync session. Put up a slide that says "Writing Time" or "Reading Time" or whatever, and give them 30 minutes to go do that thing, but room is open if they want to chat.
As someone who already works from home and spends much of their time on the telephone, I wasn’t prepared for the exhaustion of spending time on video conferencing calls.
The maximum has been 5 hours a day. Luckily, that is the exception rather than the rule.
