1/12 Of Sanctions and "Regime Repression"

I was having a conversation with a fellow political analyst about Sanctions and my question was why #Zimbabwe was on a Sanctions list and Saudi Arabia or Uganda was NOT. The wily old fox smiled and asked me...
2/12 ... a basic question "What are the objectives of Sanctions". I replied "To make the people suffer by destroying their economy so that they can revolt against their government". He then asks the killer question "Do you think the US wants a revolt in Saudi Arabia...
3/12 ... and Uganda which are US strategic partners in their respective regions?"."NO" was my sheepish answer. He then went on to add why the US Sanctions regime was the best tool for #Zimbabwe "We have already agreed that as educated as #Zimbabweans are they don't like..

#Zimbabweans you need to now what is happening in Parliament which has become more farcical than ever. Read the below excerpts from respected legal NGO Veritas regarding proceedings. Its a shocking record of contempt for Parliament & parliamentary process by the Min of Finance.
"Good points made by Hons Mushoriwa and Markham on the need to increase the allocation for the Auditor-General’s Office and how to do it [by transferring funds from the Ministry’s own Unallocated Reserve] were rebuffed. "
"The Minister said he was not prepared at this stage to divert funds from his Unallocated Reserve but preferred to keep it intact for the possibility of emergency needs, such as a further wave of COVID-19. "

Let's address the elephant in the room #Zimbabweans.

The Coup minutes confirm that the army took over Zanu PF to avoid election defeat!
Before that, the army clearly declared that they would not salute anyone without war credentials...
The army installed THEIR candidate in 2017.

1. Many #Zimbabweans think 2008 situation in #Zimbabwe was unique n this has been largely due to the fact that we are so insular n so polarized we look at things in terms of @ZANUPF_Official n @mdczimbabwe. Bt 2008 there was a Global Financial Meltdown.
2. In First World Countries, Governments had to step in to save Financial Institutions from collapse m folding up. There was a Financial Crisis across the World. #Zimbabwe as a country already under sanctions was severely affected coz it had no external credit lines.
3. The ZWD as it was then, was deliberately shorted...yes, attacked deliberately. Many will doubt this but there is precedence to it you know. George Soros once shorted the British Pound itself. Its a deliberate position adapted in the Money Market.

Functions of Money THREAD.
As you might have read already, the ED government has abolished the multicurrency regime and fast-tracked the reintroduction of the #ZimDollar. We will continue with our functions of money thread, but with brief responses to this new development.1
We are of the firm belief that policy debates, especially on important subjects like the national currency, should be conducted in an open, transparent and jargon-free manner. I challenge Hon Mthuli/Mangudya to do a lecture on currency reform at UZ, NUST of MSU.2
Today we are focusing on the key functions of money, namely medium of exchange, unit of account, store of value and standard of deferred payments. Anyone who has done 'O' level economics would know this stuff. 3

1/7 One of our major undoing as #Zimbabweans is our unconscious hatred for information and detail especially for a country & society that prides of high literacy rate. Prof. @ProfJNMoyo had this to say during a SAPES seminar “Whither Zimbabwe’s Nationalist Project” in 2017.
2/7 It’s maybe high time we get serious & forget about the literacy pride. We are in a fix as country partly due to our simplistic approach because there is no direct link between literacy & competency. If anything, competency is more linked to knowledge, skills & abilities.
3/7 Anyway, many argue that @ProfJNMoyo didn’t knew of the Coup, but listening to the seminar, one will have a sense that there was knowledge of it but the how, form & shape of delivery could have been the missing piece.
