Tadoba was booming with Tiger sightings and the saying “ Tadoba never disappoints” or “Tiger sightings in Tadoba are guaranteed” had started making rounds in the circles of Wild Life. I had no intentions of finding or photographing other Tigers. 2/n
I had seen almost all Tigresses and other males in the TATR. But! I had always missed Matkasur. So, I land in Nagpur and head to Tadoba with one hope and prayer. Matkasur dikh jaye bas. 3 days passed, many tigers were seen but not the King. 3/n

Once #swamp #deer inhabited areas from Central India to the Godavari river in the south. Currently, they are found in five discrete populations in 3 regions of central, north-east and northern India.

Before the 1950s, the number of Hard ground Barasingha was estimated to be around 3,000 in Banjar Valley of Kanha National Park (KNP). However, by the 1960s the number had dwindled to a meagre 66 due to expansion of #agricultural activities into barasingha habitats...

The Red Crowned Roofed #turtle is a #species of #freshwater turtle endemic to South #Asia.

Historically the species was widespread in the #Ganga River, both in #India and #Bangladesh. Extirpated from most of its former range but currently it has dwindled a last surviving population of less than 500 adult individuals in the #wild.

Their population reduced drastically due to depredation of eggs and hatchlings by Golden #jackals, #habitat degradation due to #pollution and illegal sand mining in the floodplains. They are also extensively #poached for their meat and shell.

#Gaur the largest #bovine in peninsular #India, was previously found in three discreet populations in Southern India (Western Ghats and #Nilgiri plateau), Central India (#Vidarbha, southern MP, #Chhattisgarh and Eastern ghats in #Odisha) and North-East India.

Gaur were historically found in #Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in small numbers. There were around 30-35 Gaur in BTR in the early 1990s, which had dwindled to just one individual in 1996 and zero in 1998.

'Know your camera' as well as you know the capabilities of your fingers. The camera is an extension of yourself & has to do what your mind wants it to do. It has to react fast. Very fast! Action packed moments in the wild last just for a few seconds.

If you’re not deeply familiar with the settings of your camera or the capabilities of your chosen lens, you‘ll either miss the shot or ruin the images you do manage to capture. Believe me thats a very bad memory to carry out of the wilderness. A lost shot is gone for ever.

²they are grey with long tails, a crest and short legs adapted for tree crawling. If you watch them on trees, get do look like mice🐀
There are 6 spp of Mousebird & all are confined to Africa. They are evolutionary distinct & special (someone can add here)

³they eat a wide variety but mostly fruit. They like to huddle together to keep warm. From time to time, you can see them on tree tops seemingly basking in the sun.

Wasps have generally earned themselves a bad reputation. But despite their occasional aggression, these insects play an important role in the ecosystem. #wasp #wildlifephotography #wildlife
There are over 7,000 wasp species living in the UK, comprising a huge variety of solitary and social species. The majority are parasitoids, which have young that eat insects or spiders alive. However, the most commonly seen wasps are the black and yellow social species.
Colonies of social wasps are considered annoying pests - they often nest in manmade structures and deal out painful stings if you get too close. Yet despite our grievances, the ecosystem actually relies on these underappreciated insects.

@Kavitamajumdar Sandeep Das realised that he needed to take up photography to help present his findings to a scientific community to prove the unusual sightings of the rare and exotic birds he spotted. He began as a novice shooting pictures, randomly.

@Kavitamajumdar His key area of interest remains amphibians and, to some extent, reptiles. They essentially share the same ecosystem, and both are primarily nocturnal. So, if you study one, you are bound to bump into the other frequently.

I wasn't in touch with him. I hadn't spoken to him in decades. But his elder brother & me were good friends for long though even we didn't meet often. His memory goes back to our school & college days - 1973 to 1980 or so. He was then around 13 yrs old. He was unique even then.
With some friends he had what was called Harry's house. For us though a couple of years older it was like a Enid Blyton fantasy but at whole new level. Reason ? They had snakes which they caught & kept in glass cages. To avoid accidental snake bite in the night their bed was hung
over 2 wooden beams just below the roof & that's where they slept. He & his friends were #wildlife enthusiasts & for us in those days it was both bizarre & exciting & for the parents exasperating. I still remember one day during engineering exams we were about to enter the room
