On the morning of Thursday, July 21st, our bookstore was visited by two individuals from the FBI who claimed to be concerned about right-wing threats against our co-operative. 𧔠1/10
One visitor provided a business card identifying himself as a special agent with the Charlotte Division's Asheville satellite office. and asked if we had received any threats (presumably, not including the presence of FBI agents). 2/10

I am so tired of people making at best baseless claims or at worst straight-up lying. So in this thread, I am going to try to debunk a bunch of myths being spread about policing, prosecution, and incarceration in DC and then talk about some realities.
Myth 1: Budget Decisions or Legislation introduced since June 2020 is the reason for the increase in Homicides.
Reality: The homicide rate has risen every year since 2017. So to say it's only increased since June 20 is false and misleading.

Myth 2: DC has systemically defunded MPD.
Reality: Funding increased FY12-FY20. From FY20-22 there was a 13% decrease (adj for inflation). This is due to transferring the school security contract from MPD to DCPS & the rate of attrition, not "defunding"
