developer.apple.com/videos/play/ww…

A quick guide 🧵
Get on the latest 2022 LTS

* For ARKit features you can use AR Foundation / ARKit packages (com.unity.xr.arfoundation)

* For ARKit Hands get the hands package (com.unity.xr.hands)

* For Interaction you can use XRI (com.unity.xr.interaction.toolkit)
If you have a Virtual reality app you can create a full space immersive app using stereo metal rendering with compositor services. Consider switching URP to get access to foveated rendering.

If you want to create a mixed reality app it will be rendered with reality kit.

With all eyes on #WWDC today and the incredible unveiling of Apple's Vision Pro glasses, another small release may have slipped under your radar!

@OpenAI just published a comprehensive guide on GPT best practices in their documentation

Here are some helpful takeaways from it 👇 Image
1. Task breakdown

For better performance and higher accuracy, it is very important to break complex tasks into simpler ones.

An interesting tactic is to use intent classification to identify the most relevant instructions for a user's query: Image
2. Giving GPT time to "think"

Requesting immediate answers from the model might yield inaccuracies as it doesn't allow for 'reasoning' time. Remember how LLMs operate is heavily reliant on thoughtful processing.

A tactic is asking the model if it missed anything previously: Image

These are the things I will check during the launch of the #Apple #VirtualReality headset at #WWDC: [Thread]

- What words will Tim Cook use: Virtual Reality? Mixed Reality? Simulated Reality? Apple Reality? Image
- What use cases do they propose: Meetings with friends? Working with videos/3D models/art? Gaming? Media consumption?

- Has Apple found the "Killer App" or is launching at WWDC hoping that developers will find it? I bet on the second
- What market will they enter in? As @ananddass said, will they try to enter the TV/screen/home theater market? Will the headset be proposed as an XR headset or a "TV replacement"?

Apple's @vidhigoel07 had a great session at #WWDC last week, talking about improving network latency through:

🔛implementation tuning (for example buffer sizing)
🔜network assistance (like L4S, the new Low-Latency, Low-Loss proposal!).

developer.apple.com/videos/play/ww…

Some thoughts👇
A big part of observed network latencies/delays is due to so-called bufferbloat:

Too large intermediate buffers, both on the endpoints and in the network, cause packets to stay in the buffer too long, delaying them.
On the endpoints, this can be improved by tuning buffer sizes for different protocols (TCP/QUIC, TLS and HTTP have their own buffers!). Default sizes are often too high.

Why you may want to use #ReactNative in 2022. A thread.

Pros:
- Lots of big companies use it and provide great experiences: Microsoft, Tesla, Discord (excellent), Shopify
- Active community
- Atwood's Law: "Any application that can be written in JavaScript, will eventually be written in JavaScript."
- React's state management framework is still a million years ahead of SwiftUI/UIKit. Recently I tried #zustand recommended by @GeekPlux.
The more I used this framework, the more I regret how much time I've wasted on Apple's toy framework. Totally unnecessary.
- In scenarios where it doesn't fit, you can fall back to the system native solution

Cons:
- Adds a lot of compile time.

简单说说为什么还想在 2022 年用 React Native?

Pros:
- 很多大公司都在使用,并且体验都很棒:微软,特斯拉,Discord(极佳),Shopify(目前还不是用户)
- 社区活跃
- Atwood's Law: “Any application that can be written in JavaScript, will eventually be written in JavaScript.”

(1/N)
Pros (cont'd):

(2/N)
Cons:

#WWDC22 is about to kick off & rumours are that Apple will have an announcement on search.

What can we expect?

Let's put the Spotlight on how 🍎 already seeks to control search. 🧵 Search prison
1️⃣ Safari constrains your freedom to seek, by blocking any custom search options, like @mojeek browsers & search
We've explained before how Google, Microsoft & Apple practice coopetition in browsers & search.

It’s time to start a #WWDC Wishlist Mega Thread. Here we go, will keep adding things until the event.
1. iOS 16: Add new languages in Apple Translate. I can hope for Indian languages, especially Hindi, but I think they have a long list before reaching there.
2. Wider rollout for Apple Pay, hopefully we get it in India as well. Indian market is quickly shifting towards Tap to Pay, and the government is encouraging digital payments more than any other country. Apple Pay would be a great addition.

Today's #WWDC day. Who else wonders if there's a render rush panic right before the stream starts?
I guess they didn't know how to open WWDC this year.

And so I begin the Late Night AWS #requinnvent tweet thread: Corey Quinn's own version of AWS's own version of Cloud Next.

To make it more like the #reinvent I gave my kid $20, watered down my drink, and spent the last 3 hours standing in line outside my home office yelling.
(These will be aggregated among some other things at requinnvent.com.)
The #reinvent livestream is up, playing music reminiscent of that time I tried to give my dial-up modem a bath.

Researchers & app developers, are you trying to synchronize your CareKit app data to the cloud? My team, #NetReconLab at the @universityofky has released a set of open-source tools to help #WWDC #Swift #CareKit #Cloud #synchronization #Postgres #mongodb

developer.apple.com/videos/play/ww…
Apple engineers discussed all of the new synchronization features they added today within CareKit (19 minutes - end of the video). I was fortunate enough to make some contributions to this effort on CareKits official GitHub Page (I'm " cbaker6" 🙃)

github.com/carekit-apple/…
The CareKitSample-ParseCareKit which shows off all of the tools at once. It combines the data sync tool (ParseCareKit) that syncs the data from your device to parse-hipaa. The sample app will have you synching data to your server in 3 minutes!

Good to see you can finally import modules/app code into an Xcode playground - you may need to do an testable import of your main app code as it is all internal by default.
You'll need to check this box to make it work. #WWDC Image
Spoke to soon - it imports framework code fine, but even though testable import YourApp_Module satisfies the compiler, it fails at runtime with missing symbol errors.

Amidst all the details, installing pre-release, and commentary (including my own) I want to take a moment to reflect on #WWDC putting it in context of the past two decades. Quite simply, what we're seeing is some of the most remarkable product engineering over time in history. 1/ Wikipedia list of apple OS releases from 1984. Almost exactl
2/ It is easy to get wrapped up in debates about specifics, excited by tweaks or surprises, even an occasional scandal, or to wonder about the quality (is this is a good beta?). Under the hood, is a team that over time has done more and executed better than any I can name, ever.
3/ Having walked in similar shoes for many years, and importantly starting from when Mac was a hammer smashing through a screen, through the lowest lows (fine, we'll keep doing Office), resurrection, and reinvention, it's wild for me to consider what makes it so amazing to me.

I don't need to watch Apple #WWDC 2020 because I watched Google I/O 2016.
When Android got Apple features announced in 2020:
Change default email/browser app: 2008 (inception)
Widgets: 2009
Translate (app): 2010
Cycling directions: 2010
Picture in picture: 2017
Come at me fanboys. Tell me about the customer stickiness and how it's a luxury good.

Okay, let's get this started.

I'm live tweeting my thoughts and some analysis as I read Bolton's "The Room Where It Happened". I'm using a PDF version that I got for free, so I'll provide annotations and highlights.

//THREAD//
My first thought while reading this is just utter amazement at how highly Bolton regards himself:
For someone whose livelihood depends on the Resistance buying his book, Bolton isn't holding back words. I've felt insulted at least 5 times and I'm only a couple pages in.
