Delighted to share the rejuvenation journey of our cities under @SmartCities_HUA at a webinar on ‘Digital Transformation in Smart Cities’ organised by @ASSOCHAM4India. Use of Smart & Sustainable solutions have contributed in #TransformingUrbanLandscape in an orchestrated way.
Creation of basic infrastructure topped with digital/ mobile applications are at the core of Smart Cities. Cities are becoming smarter & self-reliant as we move towards making of an #AatmaNirbharBharat. They are introducing various ways to provide Ease of Living to the citizens.
We are working on making smart cities climate resilient, sustainable and better liveable by promoting #Cycle4Change, #Streets4People; or Internships through TULIP for connecting youth to city development.
Congratulations to Vita, Maharashtra for walking away with the honours of becoming the Best City in 'Innovation & Best Practices' (25-50K Population) in West Zone. Known as the ‘City of Gold’, Vita Council has installed technology based twin bins at 6 high footfall areas.
These twin bins, powered through solar energy compresses the waste to 1/5th of its original size. When full, an automatic signal is sent to the management for emptying. This unique technology has led to several benefits for ULBs.
This has reduced number of trips for sanitation staff while also vastly bringing down waste collection expenses. Innovations such as these highlight how technology can be a great enabler when it comes to Swachhata!

Delighted to attend inauguration of 2.12 km underground line of Metro Rail from Chandpole to Badi Chaupar by Hon’ble CM, Rajasthan in the UNESCO World Heritage City of Jaipur. With this nearly 12kms of metro system is now operational in the Pink City.

With this new line total commuters in Jaipur will rise from 20,000 to 40,000 per day. It will provide affordable, comfortable, convenient, punctual, safe & environment friendly mode of daily commute.

Heartiest congratulations to Hailakandi town of Assam on becoming the Best City in 'Innovation & Best Practices' (25–50K Population) in the North – East Zone. This ULB had organized one of its kind ‘Prize Money Plastic Fishing Competition’.
In this, citizens were motivated to collect as much plastic as possible from water bodies & were incentivized for the same through a cash prize. The city has also shown its mettle by securing an ODF++ certification.
This city improved its ranking by a whopping 129 spots in this year’s Swachh Survekshan. Heartiest ongratulations to the citizens & the city authorities for working hand in hand for the success of Hailakandi.

Urban Mobility is one of the key sectors identified by Smart Cities under their plans with estimated investments of about ₹42,000 crore.
Smart Cities are implementing Smart Roads’ projects with the objective of transforming the important mobility corridors.

Such projects focus on enhancing the walkability through pedestrian-friendly walkways, encourage non-motorized transport through dedicated lanes for cyclists, and provide ease of access to public transport & related infrastructure.
These components are based on local technical feasibility. Projects also accommodate underground ducts for utility networks such as electricity, telecom, gas, water, waste-water, etc.
Smart Cities Mission promotes preservation & development of open spaces - parks, playgrounds, and recreational spaces in order to enhance the quality of life of citizens, reduce the urban heat effects in urban areas & promote eco-balance.

‘Energy & Environment’ is among the priority sectors identified by 100 Smart Cities with estimated investments worth over ₹25,000 crore proposed under Smart City Plans (SCPs). Under @SmartCities_HUA, clean energy initiatives encourage use of energy from renewable sources.
Smart Cities are implementing projects relating to use of clean & green energy such as Solar Power Plants, Windmills etc. Smart Cities of Surat, Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore etc. have made project investments to develop solar energy fields, floating solar plants, wind energy plants.
My ministry is putting all out efforts to make cities green & sustainable for the citizens. For energy efficiency, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation has undertaken the project of replacing conventional streetlights with LED lights.

LEDs use less energy than incandescent bulbs. Diode light is more efficient power-wise than filament light. LED bulbs use more than 75% less energy than incandescent light. LED flood lamps use only 11 to 12 Watts creating light impact comparable to 50 Watt incandescent bulb.
Under AMRUT, during the first quarter (April to June 2020) post lockdown, 1.86 lakh conventional streetlights have been replaced by energy efficient LED lights. So far, nearly 77 lakhs conventional street lights have already been replaced by energy efficient LED lights.
For facilitating Ease of Doing Business in Construction Permits to improve transparency & accountability against the global benchmarks of ensuring assured services, 2,056 cities/ towns, have implemented OBPS that includes 444 #AMRUT Mission cities.

It is heartening to share that 14 States/ UTs have implemented OBPS in their all cities/ towns. India’s rank in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Report, 2020 in construction permits improved to 27 from 186 in 2015.

Implementation of OBPS has streamlined the process through single window clearance. It has reduced time & cost, eliminated need for personal visits, boosted transparency, integrated internal/external agencies, improved capacity building by strengthening professional requirements.
Non Motorised Transport (NMT) system is an integral part of our urban flagship missions of #AMRUT, Urban Transport & Smart Cities. It directly focuses on reducing congestion & pollution in cities, improving last mile connectivity & promoting a healthy lifestyle for citizens.
Enhanced Ease of Living, better & easy connectivity options are at the centre of NMT. Walkability, cyclability are the major modes of transport under NMT. As part of #AMRUT, mission cities have focussed on a safe & health-giving way of life for all.

Geo-tagging is function of location services associated with computer systems/ networks/ mobile devices that enables finding precise location for the projects.

Projects can be geo-tagged through 'mAMRUT' Mobile App, designed by NIC & the results of geo-tagging are accessible to citizens & officials alike on the public portal geourbanmissions.gov.in . Till date, 5,792 AMRUT projects have been geo-tagged across the country.

This includes construction of network of primary & secondary drainage, proper drainage network to identified water stagnant point/flooding points up to the end discharge point & rejuvenation of existing primary nallahs & primary drains including covering & installation of filter.
Atal Mission for Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation #AMRUT aims to strengthen basic civic infrastructure in 500 mission cities. One of the components of #AMRUT is Sewerage & Septage Management which is bringing about improvement in coverage & treatment capacities of sewerage.

Reviewed the progress of Urban Flagship Missions of @MoHUA_India in a Webinar meeting with Chief Secretaries/ Principal Secretaries/Secretaries (UD)/ Mission Directors of all North Eastern Region States viz. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya.
Concerned officials from Nagaland, Sikkim & Tripura were also present in the webinar yesterday.
Significant progress has been made in all the Missions. Urban infrastructure projects & reforms of #AMRUT, projects under Smart Cities Mission & @SwachhBharatGov were discussed.

Great news for country’s most popular tourist city of Taj that Hon’ble Apex Court has allowed Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation to implement Agra Metro project. I am personally delighted as I served Agra as District Magistrate in 1996-1998 & am Chairman of the Metro Company.
Congratulations to citizens of this historical city for they will have world class Metro system now. Hon’ble PM laid its foundation stone on 8th March, 2019 but the work could not take off in view of Court’s stay order.
Metro will provide environment friendly, convenient, comfortable & hassle free connectivity to major residential, commercial & tourist sites like Taj Mahal & Agra Fort etc.

Most important component of the scheme is universal water supply. It has ensured water tap connections with 24x7 water supply, improved quality of water, negated the problem of scarcity of water & significantly reduced diseases caused by contaminated water.
Apart from water tap connections, this component undertakes building of overhead tanks in cities & towns with population of over one lakh within the notified area. This has immensely contributed to a healthy & regular supply of water for citizens. #TransformingUrbanLandscape
