Today, @BorisJohnson has said that taxes on unhealthy foods should be reviewed citing a lack of evidence. The only such UK tax is the soft drinks industry levy, or #sugartax, so please let me take you through that 'lack of evidence'.

Sugary drinks are also associated with increased risk of diabetes, over and above any effect through weight gain. Over 10 years, they are estimated to directly cause 79,000 cases of diabetes in the UK, and 124,000 cases when including weight gain.

Trip to @ManCity ‘s #Etihad last night observation (1): don’t try to reduce single use plastic by not having lids and straws & then decant drinks from single use 500ml plastic bottles into wax coated cups. Why not get soft drinks on tap? #reduceplastic #plasticwaste
Observation (2): train staff to tell customers you don’t have Coke. I’m allergic to sweeteners & if I hadn’t been watching, would have been given Coke Zero when I clearly asked for a Coke. No options other than water for people with allergies - disgraceful! #sugartax is an excuse
Observation (3): it clearly says on the ticket that persistent standing is not permitted yet those rules were never enforced, meaning a large number of people couldn’t see the first 1/3 of the pitch (18’ box) - why didn’t the stewards act?

It is pretty obvious from UN high level commission report on #NCDs that nearly all (all but one?) of the Commissioners agreed on #SSB taxes
