There appears to be an internet blackout in Sudan today after members of the government were arrested during a military coup. @netblocks
Sudan is back on the streets in protest against the coup and the arrest of leaders, including PM Hamdock.

This footage is from Omdurman, near Khartoum #SudanUprising.
Here is a thread from my friend @Drsalmaa detailing who was detained, as well as reports of the Rapid Support Forces deployed in Khartoum (the same group responsible for a massacre in June 2019).

The martyrs are never dead, they are forever in our hearts. Here is a thread of the events that occurred a year ago that led to the massacre of hundreds of peaceful protesters. *Viewer discretion advised *#SudanUprising #BlueForSudan #SudanMassacre
These peaceful protests began December of 2018 in the city of Atbara when the price of bread doubled in price. Most of the public can barely afford to feed their families due to the dictatorship that Omar Al Bashir was running for 30 years.
After month’s of torture and civil unrest the dictatorship was toppled after a coup occurred. The Vice President and his colleagues took over power and stepped down in less than 24 hrs after the protestors called for a complete change of the government.

#SudanUprising With peace talks begin, this article written by @HatimAlTai2 can help those who still feel like they don't know what #Sudan's armed rebels want

Ive serious worries about the RSF providing public services. Firstly from a PR point of view its disastrously effective. Not only does it help whitewash their image it undermines critical voices to them, because predictably we’ll oppose the growth of the RSF (1/3)
#SudanUprising
Now to a lot in Sudan, particularly in rural areas this looks like we don’t want to the RSF to provide services like healthcare etc. This simultaneously improves the image of the RSF while damaging the image of its critics. Many won’t won’t understand why we oppose
#SudanUprising
The RSF isn’t providing these services in addition to legitimate state institutions its is providing them instead of them, weakening their image & effectiveness of while simultaneously strengthening its own. This is a slow attempt to erode the state from within

I welcome the swearing-in today of Abdalla Hamdok to be prime minister of #Sudan’s transitional government, and I congratulate the Sudanese people on this milestone as they work to establish a civilian-led transitional government.
mcgovern.house.gov/news/documents…
I hope the Constitutional Declaration leads to the formation of a government that – after decades of struggle, suffering and sacrifice – guarantees peace throughout Sudan, human rights, justice, full political participation, and a better future for Sudan's families and children.
I also support justice for the crimes committed by the Bashir regime – not just for widespread and endemic corruption, but for gross human rights abuses, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide carried out against the people of Darfur and the Sudanese people.

Victory or Egypt was the warning. That we must be careful to learn lessons from Egypt’s failed revolution النصر أو مصر
But the warning should’ve been Victory or Sudan more specifically old Sudan. Sudan’s history has been destructively playing on loop for 60 yrs

The cycle begins with the Military making a pact with a political power base to rule Sudan. In 1958 General Abboud makes a pact between the Army & the tribal political sects of the Ansar & Al Khatmiya
In 1969 Colonel Nimeri makes a pact with leftist politicians

1. Sudan’s economic crisis is a severe supply side crisis which the regime has tried to tackle by boosting consumption. The women in this video tells that oranges sell for the equivalent of 0.3 USD that is a price comparable to what you would pay in the UK
#SudanUprising
2. A country with high labour costs due to a per capita income now 40 times higher than Sudan’s that has to import oranges, that has one of the highest fuel duties in the world making transportation extremely expensive should not be able to match Sudan on the price of agri goods
3. This is able to happen because Sudan’s economic system is extremely broken. Sudanese agricultural producers should be able to massively undercut the costs of Agri goods in a place like the U.K. due to cheap labour, transport & an abundance of agricultural land

Burhan probably went to Uganda at this critical time for the TMC, including skipping the final negotiations with the FFC towards a Civilian-led agreement, to try & “learn just how Museveni has managed to stay in power in Uganda for over 3 decades; without having to hand over...

Something that Museveni has managed to do for some of his rule since 1985, with International Community “military support” from even the USA?”

Short Answer - Museveni did it largely by creating “a distracting artificial threat of insecurity” in certain..
