It was a system of reciprocity, kinship bonds, access to land and equity.

Colonialism meant the take-over of lands, the transformation of Africans into uprooted and poorly paid urban and rural workers. It came with a labour system that keeps the people down.
Meanwhile, the number of people killed by coronavirus worldwide has passed 450,000 on Thursday.

This dialogue is about the struggle to gain, exercise and control power among organized groups within Nigeria’s political system.

Pa Ajayi died on 3 Nov 2017 at age of 91. He was of the Awolowo school of politics. He was an astute intellectual and lawyer. He was not distracted by power. The health of the Yoruba nation was of utmost concern to him, and he wrote the book This House of Oduduwa Must Not Fall.
The bringing together of the Igbo, Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba and other tribes to form Nigeria was bound to create serious political problems as the groupings had different world views. Ethnic misunderstanding would later lead to the Nigerian civil war.

The World Bank in its 2019 Nigeria Economic Update Report, says the number of Nigerians living in extreme poverty may increase by more than 30 million by 2030. That about 50 per cent of Nigeria’s almost 200 million people live in poverty.
The bank predicts that Nigeria will be home to 25 per cent of the world’s destitute people if government fails to create jobs.
