CBP has the largest immigration enforcement apparatus IN THE WORLD and could easily refocus all of its efforts on this and nothing else. Protecting us from contagious disease is one of the only reasons that they arguably need to exist at all, and they are simply refusing to do it
History will try to understand where our national priorities were if not this, and this is the answer: torturing innocent Central American families before deporting them back to spread #COVID19 to their own countries

I was struck by the tone & diction which kinda sounds like whomever was tasked with drafting came from OIL or civil not from within the immigration ranks. It does not contain the usual and well worn lingo of a BIA/AG decision of past. As if it was a recycle of Jennings SG brief 1

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have suspended northbound and southbound vehicle and pedestrian crossings at the San Ysidro port of entry.
It was not immediately clear if any members of the caravan made it past the point of entry into the United States.

.@waltshaub has been great on Twitter but he couldn’t be more wrong in mistaking a hashtag from a substantive argument. #AbolishICE is a clear and necessary phrase for an agency that has gone largely rogue.
As a community organizer and now as a City Councilmember, many of us called for #AbolishICE in mid-2000s when we dealt with T. Don Hutto and the abusive deportation of a pregnant Philly Chinese businesswoman who miscarried twin fetuses after a violent deportation attempt.
ICE was awful under Obama too and DHS Head Jeh Johnson was unforgiving when we met with him to state that we would not back away from our Sanctuary City status.

2) Congress basically screwed themselves by not passing a formal budget. Per the Constitution, the #President must adhere to a budget set forth by #Congress and direct the expenditures as provided therein.

I hope @SenSchumer and Senate Dems will agree to start holding votes on immigration since they've insisted upon debating it for weeks. First they shut down the government over this, now they’re slow-walking a start to the debate.
.@SenSchumer says #SanctuaryCities have nothing to do w/border security or #DACA. My #SanctuaryCities amdt focuses on smart immigration enforcement. Following immigration laws & protecting citizens from dangerous criminals in our cities is the 1st step to a secure border.
Immigrants want safe cities and communities as much as anyone. My amendment allows cities to protect illegal immigrants who come forward as witnesses or victims of crimes. This is about everyone’s safety.
As we begin to debate the issue of immigration, @SenSchumer is blocking a vote on my amdt to address problem of dangerous #SanctuaryCities, putting interests of criminals before public safety.
For there to be a good-faith bill on #DACA, dangerous #SanctuaryCity policies must be addressed: DREAM Act says if you commit certain crimes, you lose protections & can be deported. If local law enf. can’t cooperate with DHS/ICE, then this provision is virtually unenforceable.
I once again ask my colleagues to focus their attention on the serious problem of dangerous #SanctuaryCities. There's lots of misinformation about #SanctuaryCities so here are the facts.
