Thread: Halloween, as the world knows it, is an Irish invention from ancient Irish-Celtic roots. It’s correct name is Samhain & marks the end of the Harvest. It was culturally appropriated by the Christian Church as All Hallows’ Eve. Here’s an overview. #Samhain
Samhain was seen as the time when the concrete & the spirit worlds met & was a portal to the Otherworld. All sorts of spirits, particularly malevolent ones, walked amongst the living! Irish people brought it with them as they migrated to all parts of the world from the 4th C.
I find Irish art & culture fascinating & it’s part of the DNA of my work. Here’s a group of my drawings that are inspired love, hope & happiness.

Es sind die Tore zur Anderswelt, zur Unterwelt und zur Geisterwelt die sich an in den Rauhnächten, an #Beltain und #Samhain öffnen. Die Kraftplätze sind in diesen Nächten aktiv, Portale geöffnet. Die wilden und ungezähmten Chaos- und Naturgeister und -energien können

Infatti è una festa ctonia, che celebra le forze oscure dell'inverno.
Secondo un diffusissimo (ma tardo) mito irlandese, ci sono due corti fatate, i Seelie e gli Unseelie, che si disputavano il controllo del regno dell'aldilà, onde evitare la guerra fu siglato un patto.

Per sei mesi, la primavera e l'estate, sarebbe stata la corte fatata dei Seelie a governare, ma per altri sei, l'autunno e l'inverno, sarebbe stata la corte Unseelie a regnare portando con se il freddo e la morte.

Happy Samhain and Happy Halloween! I am the daughter of a man born on Samhain/Halloween, so Happy Birthday to you, Dad. I do believe that the barrier between this world and the others is thin, and so I feel closer to him on this day.
In the 90s, we had a big party for his 50th Birthday which was just few months after he was diagnosed with AIDS and didn’t know how long he might live (since he had a severely low T-cell count). It was joyful, as joyful as it could be.
October 31 is also the day that my familiar, my souldog, my Boston Terrier Jordan passed out of this world with a beautiful blessing and ritual by the unbelievably wonderful @urbantantrika. So, it’s a heavy day for me. #Halloween #Samhain
