The reason you find it hard to believe is because you don’t understand the reality of Black-owned media today. First, there are VERY FEW Black-owned media who have actual reporters. That’s plural. It comes down to resources. #BlackOwnedMediaMatters 1/8
In the advertising industry, $322B is spent annually. Black-owned media gets .5% of that. That’s ALL Black-owned media. If you assess what is covered, it’s mostly sports and entertainment. And a lot of this is opinion. Not actual reporting. 2/8
The advertising industry doesn’t want to invest in Black-owned news. We are told that we aren’t “brand safe” due to the stories we cover: racism, police brutality, etc. Then there is the issue of Black folks actually supporting Black-owned media. 3/8

For the 3rd time in a week, I’ve had people get mad because I’ve not covered a story they say needs attention. NOW do y’all see why this fight for Black-owned media dollars matter? I’m ONE PERSON. I don’t have producers or reporters I can assign to spend weeks investigating. 1/8

I really hate awful and shoddy reporting. And this @TheRoot article, which is based on an equally shoddy reporting job by @isagutierreznbc, regarding HBCU funding. Let me first deal with the @NBCNews story by Isa. In it, she talked to three HBCU students about @JoeBiden's 1/20
Campaign commitment to spend upwards of $60B on HBCUs during his first term. Not first year, but first term. In the story, @isagutierreznbc talks to a @HowardU student about the lack of funding and the housing crisis. Nowhere in the story did Isa state how much Howard gets 2/20
From the federal government on an annual basis. Nowhere did she state the INCREASE @HowardU has gotten over the last 18 months. @isagutierreznbc also talked to an Alabama A&M student who complained about the need for more professors and buildings. Nowhere did Isa say that 3/20

Months of research and data collection lead us to the conclusion that Conservative Media isn't just controlling the discourse with mostly disinformation but that left-leaning media is helping to amplify instead of counter the narratives that are leading to legislation.
