29th September, 1942. The whole nation was in the throes of the #QuitIndia movement. In Tamluk town of Bengal's Midnapore district, a 6000-strong procession was headed towards the Tamluk police station (1/4) 
It was led by a 72-year old Bengali widow. As they entered the town, they were ordered to disband in light of sec. 144 that had been promulgated. The old lady stepped forward, asking her followers to wait. She was shot at immediately (2/4)
With the tricolor in her arms and shout of "Vande Mataram" emanating from her lips, Matangini Hazra kept moving forward even as two more bullets found their mark (3/4)
#NetajiSubhashChandraBose born on this day in 1897 had no patience for communal politics. In his book "Indian Struggle" he criticises the Hindu Mahasabha. He writes:

“The Hindu Mahasabha, like its Moslem counterpart, consisted not only of erstwhile Nationalists, but also of a large number of men who were afraid of participating in a political movement and wanted a safer platform for themselves. (2/n)
The growth of sectarian movements among both Hindus and Moslems accentuated intercommunal tension. The opportunity was availed of by interested third parties who wanted to see the two communities fight, so that the Nationalist forces could be weakened.” (3/n)
In the year 1942, Father of the Nation had delivered a clarion call of #QuitIndia against BRITISH IMPERIALIST, He had exhorted the people of India for imbibing one 'MANTRA' that consists of only 7 letters, 'DO OR DIE'

I am currently reading this wonderful book by @Koenraad_Elst which gives amazing insight abt the defence of Godse and exposes the blunders commited by Gandhi (I refuse to use Mahatma), have decided that will be tweeting extracts from the same as I go along. #KnowYourLegacy
Untill now almost all the works published on Gandhi have been hagiographies with none really questioning Gandhi on some hard facts and hence this book comes as something fresh.. #KnowYourLegacy @muglikar_ @indiantweeter @TrueIndology
This book also provides an opportunity for the next gen to learn abt the mistakes commited during the freedom struggle and more importantly also abt the fact that it was not a single person or party which helped us attain independence #KnowYourLegacy @muglikar_ @TrueIndology
