🚨 Receiving such a loud alert at 3 am is NOT appreciated. I wish the best for the missing person, but technology is lacking. #AMBERAlert #alerteamber #qc #quebec #sq #suretequebec Image
For the clowns who don’t seem to mind the alert, I’d like to see you outside and helping the cause. Go ahead. Hypocrites.
My initial tweet is clear about the loudness of the alert, hoping things could be done better. There are many ways to improve. If you can’t understand that, you’re not helping.

On January 18, @PremierScottMoe posted a graphic comparing "real-time" QC / ON / MB hospitalizations / ICU admissions vs. SK.

Problem: SK is ~3 weeks behind those provinces w/ our Omicron surge.

We MUST be careful interpreting this data. We're NOT OK, Saskatchewan.

🧵👇 (1/n)
A more reasonable and appropriate comparison would be to look at where MB/QC/ON were at ~3 weeks from Jan 18 to create a more fair "apples vs apples" graphic.

For those 3 provinces, that would take us to about Dec 28. Let's see what the data shows us. (2/n)
We have #QC data from Dec 28 & Jan 18 in the graphics below courtesy @sante_qc:

Dec 28: 804 in hospital (including ICU), 128 in ICU
Jan 18: 3425 in hospital (including ICU), 285 in ICU

OK. #SK COVID-19 mega-thread.

NEW #SK Omicron models (via @DennisKendel) Jan 19:

- Measures implemented to SIGNIFICANTLY reduce social mixing, MAYBE we avoid disaster/triage in #SK hospitals.

- Do NOTHING, #SK hospitals crushed, triage ensues.

Get comfy - here we go.

Let's begin with history.

@SKGov was provided w/ models from WORLD-CLASS #SK modeler Dr. Nate Osgood in late August 2021 that predicted EXACTLY how #SK ICUs would be overwhelmed w/ Delta in Fall 2021.

Nothing was done. Everything left wide open.

Also August 2021, consensus letter sent by #SK MHOs (led by @CoryNeudorf) to @SKGov recommends NUMEROUS measures to stem Delta:

Universal indoor masks, proof of vaccine, gathering/capacity limits, increased contact tracing capacity.

Nothing.

Oct 27 update: TAKE HOME

#Canada is performing similar to peers such as Germany in testing & controlling #COVID19 spread.

OUR FAILURE: When #Canadians get COVID-19 we’re more likely to die.

WHY? Longterm, congregate care, retirement homes.

How do you measure #SOC quality? 🤔

1. ISO 2859-1 (#AQL) to determine sample size
2. #Python #Jupyter notebook to perform random selection
3. Check sheet to spot defects
4. Process runs every 24 hrs
5. (Digestible) #Metrics to improve

How'd we get there? Story in /thread
I'll break the thread down into four key points:

1. What we're solving for
2. Guiding principles
3. Our (current) solution
4. Quick recap

My goal is to share what's working for us and how we get there. But I'd love to hear from others. What's working for you?
What we're solving for: All work is high quality, not just incidents.

On a typical day in our #SOC we'll:
- Process Ms of alerts w/ detection engine
- Send 100s to analysts for human judgement

Those 100s of alerts result in:
- Tens of investigations
- Handful of incidents

A few days ago, #QC started reporting positive cases from hospitals labs without first verifying results in the provincial lab. This has increased the pace at which #COVID19 cases are reported in the province.

March 23 #COVID19 #Canada update: 620 cases reported today, for a total of 2,091. 409 of these cases were in #QC. Explore the data using our (@ishaberry2) dashboard below.👇

The shift in the number of #QC cases occurred as a result of the province changing the way they report cases: they are now counting cases testing positive in hospital labs as confirmed, rather than sending them to the provincial lab for validation.
Larger daily jumps in case counts should not be unexpected in the future as testing scales up across the country and provinces clear their backlogs of tests.
