2/ The big three sugar interests in the Everglades Agricultural Area are U.S. Sugar, Florida Crystals, and The Sugar Growers Cooperative. This thread will focus on Florida Crystals which is owned by the #Fanjuls, Pepe and Alfie, who are octogenarian refugees from Cuba.
3/ The history of the Everglades Agricultural Area is a storied one that dates back a hundred years when the first real land rush south of Lake Okeechobee culminated in ppl being sold swamps as farmland, and the deadliest hurricane in FL history in 1928.

3/ Her support of Republicans is extensive. In 2016, while Charlie Crist was being endorsed in his congressional run by Barack Obama, Nikki Fried was volunteering for State Senator Manny Diaz Jr., who recently took over for Richard Corcoran as the State's Secretary of Education.

But there's sooo much more. He was recently named as Vice Chair for Redistricting in Florida. Steve Crisafulli and Make Haridopolis, lobbyists from Brevard, were responsible #gerrymandering the state 10 years ago so that 50% votes = 60-65% of the seats for the GOP. They are pals.
In 2019, Randy Fine's associate, fmr Deputy City Manager for Palm Bay Florida, David Isnardi, whose wife was County Commissioner Kristine Isnardi, was charged with conspiracy, extortion, and racketeering in a public corruption case that involved blackmailing city council members.

We have worked diligently for decades to clean up the 🌊water quality of Tampa Bay, but the massive dump of acidic wastewater from the neglected #PineyPoint phosphogypsum stack feels like a slap in the face. This happened before. Nobody learned from it. 2/5
We must learn the lesson now and act. We need new solutions to protect our bay and waterways, & a true commitment to stick with it. We need innovative ideas for the meaningful use of gypsum instead of building massive mounds w giant wastewater ponds that leak and overflow. 3/5
