The body cam video of the #PaulPelosi attack got me thinking about how the proliferation of video evidence has impacted the criminal justice system. When I started as a criminal defense attorney 15 years ago, most cases had 0 videos. My how that’s changed. 🧵
Interrogations weren't routinely recorded when I started as a public defender in '07. I had clients who denied confessing yet plead out bc it’d be their word against the cop’s at trial. I was relieved when interrogation videos became norm bc you could see what was said. /2
Patrol car cameras came next, providing an audio recording of police encounters with the defendant, the accuser and others (video of it too if they were standing in front of patrol car). This gave us a much fuller picture of events than the narrative in the police report. /3

3/ Paul Pelosi immediately feel to the floor after getting hit in the head w/ hammer.
He "remained unresponsive for about 3 minutes, waking up in a pool of his own blood," according to DA's Office.
He underwent surgery to repair skull fracture, injuries to right arm / hands.

Just got off the phone with SF Superior Court Clerk's office. They were instructed not to answer any media questions about #PaulPelosi footage and when it will be released. They sent me to media guy who didn't return my call until I left a message saying:
"Now I want a quote from the Clerk about why you're not answering media about when you will comply with a court order to release this footage." Suddenly, I got a response. And it's dumber than you can imagine. They claim they are copying CDs
They "cannot" make the footage available online, they say. They can't even take a request for the footage digitally. You have to fill out a form and hand deliver it. With $25 of course. I'd be happy to pay them more if they'd put it on a damn drive. It's 2023.

I find it rather interesting that everything and anything connected to #DavidDepape is gone. I read an article that said he had a blog. archive.ph/AJCRs
According to the archived site the website was archived Oct 28th 2022 at 5:55 p.m according to the police report the incident happened at 2:27 a.m. 
Within hours all of his social media were gone. One of the changes to the site was on Oct 28th at 5:25 p.m just min before it was deleted and archived. Why did the site need to be changed min before it was deleted?

Haven't heard anybody discuss perhaps the most suspicious aspect of the #PaulPelosi case: the time of the alleged attack. Pelosi called the cops around 2:30 in the morning. Let's examine the two theories and see how the time of the attacks fits into each /1

By the way, what we’re seeing with the #PaulPelosi situation is the other side of the hypocrisy coin. We have seen a lot of “it’s different when our side does it.“ Now we’re saying “it’s different when it happens to us.” 1/
2/ I mean this could be a moment when Nancy Pelosi says “having had violence brought home to me, I admit it has opened my eyes. I should have funded more security for supreme court justices… I should have chastised my daughter for praising Rand Paul’s attacker.”
3/ in other words, it would’ve been perfectly reasonable for Pelosi and other Democrats to have some introspection and growth
