good to hear the federal government plans to abolish #ParentsNext. Instead of yeeting it into the sun, the announcement is for a replacement “co-designed scheme”. Presumably to appease predatory agencies that trouser public cash for policing single mums.
the #ParentsNext program is “akin to coercive control” an inquiry found. They are getting warmer here but clearly feminism and patriarchy are still forbidden terms.

as I was saying. The priority here is not single parents. It is to appease the predatory agency/client donors. ImageImage

fear of editors is no excuse. The opinions of wealthy media operatives and their boomer audiences are not of greater value or legitimacy than the material hardship of people on centrelink payments. Many of whom are also workers so the ideologics are also rubbish, COMRADES.
there is literally a real life social experiment in the covid supplement and its data and analysis are widely available. Not raising the rate CREATES and exacerbates mental and other health conditions. Raising the rate will cut demand for relevant services OVERNIGHT.
anyway fuck the constant public dEBaTe and eC0N0MiC arguments. People matter more than nuclear submarines. Landlords and franking boomers don’t need handouts. None of this is contestable. Raise the fucking rate. RAISE THE RATE. #RaiseTheRate.

The #ParentsNEXT inquiry doesn't start til 11:30 AEDT, there was an error on the @Aust_Parliament website for that one.
@QCOSS_ @BasicRightsQld @Aust_Parliament From @QCOSS_: Low income households spend more on fuel, food, housing, electricity and water than households with higher incomes.

Median rent in Brisbane has increased by 13% and fuel by 17%.

Income support payments have increased 4% due to indexation. #PovertyInquiry #BTPM
@QCOSS_ @BasicRightsQld @Aust_Parliament A @QCOSS_ survey found that poor mental health, stigma and shame are stopping people from seeking support.

just #RaiseTheAge cowards. Stop giving police more powers to wreck lives. Take one away.
AG talkfest today. They would rather expand police powers to criminalise and incarcerate Black people than take away the police power to target and criminalise Black children. Image
the chief law officers in every jurisdiction are going to announce today that these blokes are the solution to domestic violence. Image

there is no data on Aboriginal and Tortes Strait Islander women so your report is jeopardised - Veronica Gorrie👏🏼👏🏼 #QandA
and what about police violence, says Gorrie. Aboriginal women are falsely identified as perpetrators by police.

This happened to my niece. She was thrown in the wagon - it was a wake - and driven 90 kms away “for her safety”. She was terrified. They could have killed her.
it’s because they don’t give a shit about us they do not care about Aboriginal women - Gorrie.
Yes it is.

🧵New report released today by Anne Summers confirms women are being forced to choose between staying in violence or living in poverty; between an unsafe home and potential homelessness.

The report doesn't look at the experience of First Nations women in depth, but we did 👇🏾
We worked with Aboriginal Family Violence Prevention Legal Services all around the country to release our National Report #PathwaysToSafety which drew together the expertise of First Nations women and services.
We identified key barriers to safety: punitive, poverty-level social security payments (including #ParentsNext), a lack of affordable housing, threat of child removal and discriminatory and racist policing.

A thread derived from this document while taking into account all of the changes in our welfare system, since - The Forrest Review was published 5-years ago: pmc.gov.au/sites/default/… I've wondered for a while if Palantir tech is being used for the likes of robodebt.. #auspol 1.
Andrew Forrest: 'Big data mining with specialist fraud firms like Palantir Technologies have proven extremely efficient at identifying fraud in a manner that the cash
system has no hope of replicating.' While it's not direct it's certainly a connection and explains a lot. 2.
Remember this gent: abc.net.au/news/2019-07-2… Straight away I thought of Palantir because when I wrote: melmacpolitics.com/2018/04/26/aus… I learned how their tech can be used to data mine billions and trillions of records in the hope of finding a nugget of value, be that an old debt, etc 3.

Hi! I thought it might be useful to start a #AusVotes19 welfare thread pulling together some of the interesting news and analysis that emerges during the election campaign. There have already been a few great pieces. (I'll also shamelessly plug my own work.) #auspol
.@DawsonEJ makes the case for making the best of Labor's "root and branch" #Newstart review. Demand it is fast, wide-ranging, and the increases it delivers are sufficient, she says smh.com.au/politics/feder… #AusVotes19 #auspol
@DawsonEJ Waleed Aly today argues that, despite all the talk of a fair go from Morrison and Shorten, "#Newstart remains stalled because, for now at least, our notion of fairness is tied to the worker." theage.com.au/politics/feder… #AusVotes19 #auspol

I’m at the Senate Inquiry into #ParentsNext today. Thread 👇🏽
Hearing from @CSMCVIC, @GoodShepANZ & @CFECFW. Their key issues w #ParentsNext:
1) miscategorises parents as ‘unemployed’ - parenting is work
2) should be voluntary, inappropriate to link parent support to TCF
3) undermines human rights obligations, targets single & ATSI mothers
Question from @SenatorSiewert about privacy prompts testimony about single mothers being fearful about disclosing info about kids schools etc when their abusive ex partners are stalking them. Getting family violence survivors exempted from #ParentsNext described as a “minefield”
