What kind of future did Sir James Craig & other #Unionist leaders envisage for the people of #NorthernIreland? As I walked the ground of my old homestead #Rathcoole I was shocked to see how the perfect storm of deprivation, disaffection & despair has broken over the estate 1/10 
Sir Basil Brooke, one of Craig’s successors, believed his government should build “homes fit for heroes” after the Second World War. Built in the 1950s, Rathcoole was to be a model village for his brand of Unionism’s vision of a “peaceful & prosperous Ulster” 2/10
Once an estate where Protestants & Catholics lived side-by-side, neighbours turned on neighbours in the 1970s, leading to the Rathcoole Defence Association intimidating many Catholics out of their homes. Tit-for-tat intimidation soon spread like wildfire across Belfast & NI 3/10

Apparently, according to this protocol, there will be a "border at sea." Goods coming from England to Northern Ireland will be marked as those terminating in Northern Ireland or those going on to Ireland (EU checks.)

The whole point of the UK coming out of the EU was the implication that the UK will not benefit from the European market rules. That means, for example that French cheese is cheaper for European countries than it is for England.

Can you help find Natalie McNally’s killer? Natalie was 15 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. She was stabbed to death in her home in Lurgan Northern Ireland on Sunday 18 December. This man carrying a rucksack arrived at Silverwood Green near Natalie’s home at 852pm.
He was seen leaving Silverwood Green at 930pm. @PoliceServiceNI are appealing for phone/video footage, CCTV, car dash-cam footage, photos, any information that can help find him. Also, there’s a golf course close to Natalie’s house which leads to the M1 Motorway.

In todays @FT there’s an op-ed from @DavidGHFrost outlining the state of play in the talks around the #NorthernIreland Protocol & contrary to a lot of reports (that mostly treat 🇪🇺 pronouncements as gospel while ignoring 🇬🇧 ones) there’s been little change

In essence the #NorthernIreland Protocol is unfinished (it was always a dynamic document) & 🇬🇧 is seeking to bring it to where it was envisioned to be, as outlined here by @LeoVaradkar in January 2020, as well as excise the bits obviated in the TCA
Alas 🇪🇺 still seems to have very little interest in living up to their responsibilities & honouring what they signed
Unfortunately for them 🇬🇧 sovereignty is absolute & Brussels’ authority runs out at The Border
