In Myanmar, three and a half weeks after the coup, there were clashes between opponents and supporters of the military. In the center of the largest city, Yangon,
a number of military supporters armed with knives and clubs attacked counter-demonstrators. Others threw stones and shot with twins. The brawls escalated in several places in the economic metropolis.
Security forces prevented hundreds of students from leaving their campus and joining demonstrations against the coup. At the same time, around 1,000 military supporters were gathering in central Yangon,

The military in Myanmar arrested other members of the disempowered government of Aung San Suu Kyi late on Wednesday evening. At least six high-ranking politicians, including a close advisor to the 75-year-old, have been arrested,
reported the newspaper "The Irrawaddy". Meanwhile, the demonstrations continued unabated. In the northern city of Mandalay, colorfully dressed artists took to the streets to call for the restoration of the civilian government.
Bank employees and Deutsche Bahn employees also took part in the demos. At first it was peaceful - on Tuesday, however, blood flowed: the police had tried to disperse demonstrators with water cannons and rubber balls.

#Myanmar 🇲🇲 BREAKING: #AungSanSuuKyi has been arrested alongside the country's President according to her party the #NLD.

It seems that the military is commiting a coup.
Unlike before it will be very hard for #AungSanSuuKyi and the #NLD to profile themselves as champions of democracy in #Myanmar 🇲🇲.

In the short period that they were in a shared position of power they allowed the #Rohingya genocide to take place and defended the perpetrators.
That being said the actions of the #Tatmadaw are clearly a coup and the international community should retaliate.

The people of #Myanmar 🇲🇲 deserve better than to go back to the dark days of military totalitarianism.

Supporters filled the streets of the city to mark the ruling party's success by wearing red shirts and waving flags.
On Monday, the country's ruling party announced that they had won enough seats in the parliament based on unofficial vote counts. The military-backed opposition dispute the result.
The leader Aung San Suu Ky, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, won a landslide in 2015 and has overseen the country's move away from oppressive military rule. However, she has been criticised by Western groups for her treatment of Rohingya Muslims.

After a rapid increase in coronavirus infections, Myanmar has announced the toughest restrictions since the beginning of the pandemic.
As of Monday, with a few exceptions, only one person will be allowed to leave each household in the city to do important errands, Health Minister Myint Htwe said on Sunday. It is compulsory to wear face masks in public places.
Office workers were asked to work from home. Factories, construction companies and other firms where this is not possible will have to shut down between September 24th and October 7th. This does not apply to employees in systemically important professions such as food retailers,
