🛣️ Jan was arrested after climbing a gantry at Junction 16 on November 7th — he appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today and was found guilty of causing a public nuisance. This was the first trial under this new statutory offence enacted under the PCSC Act 2022.
⚖️ The magistrate imposed a sentence of 9 months, which was reduced to 6 months as a result of a guilty plea. The magistrate spoke of wanting to use his sentencing as a “deterrent” against further disruption of ordinary people going about their “lawful business”

"Sitting in HMP Peterborough on my 22nd birthday, I’d like to reflect on the year gone by. On my last birthday I was sent to HMP Thameside for my role in the Insulate Britain campaign. A lot has changed since then: the cost of living crisis and climate crisis have gotten worse...
...and government inaction is costing more lives by the day. More citizens than I can count have been imprisoned for resisting these “leaders” and COP27 has somehow achieved even less than COP26 last year.
You may have seen that @grantshapps (the man who toyed with putting number-plates on bicycles and is shortest serving Home Secretary in history) said we are "misguided".

"It’s hard to think of a government more misguided than the one that Grant Shapps is currently a member of, unless of course it’s the last one. The one that lasted weeks, that crashed the economy and put up bills for millions of already struggling families.
Shapps is now serving as Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, but when he was housing minister and transport minister – the massive carbon emissions, the harm from these sectors did not reduce. Shapps has been in and out of Government for 12 years.

My good friend Louise has just been remanded to prison after she took nonviolent direct action with the @JustStop_Oil campaign by blocking the #M25. It’s shocking that our government is imprisoning young climate activists during #COP27
@JustStop_Oil Louise and other JSO supporters were demanding that the UK government end all new oil & gas licences, which would drastically cut emissions and send a message to other countries across the globe that we *cannot* carry on with fossil fuels.
@JustStop_Oil A future with fossil looks incredibly bleak. From crop failure to whole regions becoming uninhabitable - we know what’s causing climate change to spiral out of control.
Yesterday, myself, a documentary filmmaker and @tomsdinner, a press photographer, got arrested by @HertsPolice whilst filming the @JustStopOil protest from a public footbridge over the #M25.

Police had no interest in seeing press ID and handcuffed us instantly on arrival. They said they needed to search me for items which could be used to commit criminal damage. Obviously, they found nothing, so an officer said “just arrest them for conspiracy instead then”.
We were held in custody for about 13 hours and were questioned by the police, who tried to get me to reveal my journalistic sources and give them the pin to my phone. Tom's house also got searched by police and they took his daughter's iPad.
