So…. I’m reasonably young, not generally unwell, not immunocompromised, but…I’ve been testing positive for #COVID on #RATs / #LFTs for almost 6 weeks on and off. Is this normal? I know many ppl have lingering symptoms, but has anyone actually tested themselves?🧵
Sep 23 I started feeling tired and had a slightly sore throat & tested (faintly) +ve on a RAT. My symptoms did not worsen and resolved Sep 28. But I continued to test, getting faint positives (see photo) until Oct 5 (13 days) when I got two days of negatives in a row (whew!)
But…on Oct 16 I had the same symptoms return: minor sore throat + fatigue. I tested positive Oct 16 & 17 (faint line) but assumed it was residual viral shedding and non-infectious bc my partner did not get sick. But this happened again Oct 29 - same symptoms, same faint line.

Bad news, #COVID has reached chez Lorch, via the plague pits that are our schools.

Good news, I get to do some experiments with #LFTs & +ve samples

Experiment number 1, how does swabbing influence LFT results? 🧵 🪡 1/n
The left LFT was carried out as per instructions. I wasn’t sure if I could see a T line, so I immediately repeated the test & doubled the rotations up each nostril. & left the swab in buffer for 5 min. Now the T line (right) is clearly present 2/n
Whilst doing the 2nd test I noticed the T line on the 1st test was getting stronger. At 30min I wasn’t sure if I could see it, but after 2hrs it had developed into a faint but clear line. 3/n

The terms of the 'Daily Contact Testing Study' (#DCTS) are here:

snapsurvey.phe.org.uk/dcts/

If 50% of volunteers have to do daily #LFTs instead of self-isolating, the odds of both the PM & Chancellor falling into that group aren't that high.

But the optics sure aren't great... Image
More info on the "40,000 person #DailyContactTestingStudy", which launched on 9 May, here:

Given more than 500k people were pinged by the app *in the first week of July alone*, it seems a bit odd the study isn't already full:

The guidance for those in the non-self-isolating group for #DCTS is worth reading:

gov.uk/guidance/daily…

They should avoid "small, poorly ventilated public places for more than 15 mins", "public transport", "visiting others indoors" & "shouting, singing or talking loudly" 🤔 ImageImage
