The confusion arises as #Physicians are taught about #Ketoacidosis, a severe condition in people with Type 1 Diabetes or alcoholism. The determining factors for Ketoacidosis are either a lack of insulin with high blood sugar & ketone levels above 5mmol/L or severe malnutrition.
But being in Nutritional #Ketosis is normal & healthy, and should not be equated with Ketoacidosis. It's important to educate ourselves & our #physicians about the difference between these two concepts.

In yesterday's post I discussed a large-scale study showing that IF diets are no better for fat loss than other diets, given the same macronutrient intakes. Many people are aware of this now, but many people still practice IF diets for their proposed health benefits.
A new meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials finds that intermittent energy restriction diets are actually not healthier than diets with constant energy restriction.

Interestingly, I don't think they are entirely the same entity, so here is a mini-tweetorial on my thoughts about #COVID and #ketosis:

⭐️COVID has been associated with significant ketosis in non-pregnant pts
⭐️Not all COVID+ 🤰have the ⬇️oral intake seen in SK

⭐️Glucose is often normal / a bit high (rather than low/normal seen in SK)
⭐️Does not respond to glucose supplementation alone, often insulin needed, often higher doses than you would normally expect (fixed rate may be required)

But why worry?

😱The associated acidosis / tachypnea may be mistaken for worsening COVID➡️potential increase in treatment and/or delivery
😟The compensation for acidosis may be lost if sedated/intubated ➡️ worsening in biochemistry when pt already sick

After months of restricting carbohydrates by following a ketogenic diet I began developing orthorexia, thinking carbs = make me sick or overweight.

Luckily I escaped the food-phobia and learned how/why I can consume carbs to my advantage.

Carbohydrates can be divided in three general groups:

3. Polysaccharides - >10 linked monosaccharides that form a polymer
