The Inter-American Court of Human Rights is the highest judicial body for human rights in the Americas. The ruling requires States in the Latin American and the Caribbean region to:
1) Provide comprehensive #SexEducation to adolescents so they can not only understand their sexual and reproductive rights but the implications of emotional relationships, as well.

This historic ruling comes 18 years after Paola, then a 16-year-old student, took her own life after suffering repeated sexual abuse from her school’s vice-principal. #JusticiaPorPaola
The @IACourtHR found that Paola’s continuous abuse caused extreme suffering, and in turn led to her death by suicide.

El mismo juez señala falta de lealtad procesal por parte de la delegación del Ecuador. Lo que implica la falta de seriedad con la que la Procuraduría tomó la audiencia.
Por su parte el juez Vio Grossi se indigna por la forma en la cual el Estado ha intentado trasladar la violencia a la víctima. Recalca que no hay razón en señalar que ella “perdió el año”. Además, manifiesta que el Estado no se puede beneficiar de sus ineficiencias.

Paola Guzmán Albaraccín murió a los 16 años en Guayaquil.
Por dos años había sido violada por el vicerrector de su colegio, quedo embarazada y fue obligada a abortar en el servicio médico del colegio. Allí el médico le dijo que le practicaría el aborto solo si tenía sexo con él

Esto llevó a Paola el 12 de diciembre del 2002 a intentar suicidarse tomando fósforo blanco en casa antes de ir al colegio. Al llegar al colegio le contó a sus amigas y ellas informaron a las autoridades del colegio, quienes en lugar llevarla al médico la pusieron a rezar
A las amigas se les autorizó a avisar a la mamá tres horas después de que Paola llegara al colegio, la mamá la recogió y la llevó a una clínica.

The abuse continued for several months before Paola realized she was pregnant. When the vice-principal learned of the pregnancy, he asked her to get an abortion and sent her to the school doctor, who agreed to perform the procedure under one condition, that she have sex with him.
