I had an interesting conversation on #Polish-#Hungarian relations yesterday under #ChathamHouse rule. I would like to share my key conclusion without further details. It will be highly disturbing from a #Polish perspective, but may contribute to a reflection process.
THREAD 1/15

#Polish foreign & security policy talks from an intellectual and moral high ground to previously more #Russia-friendly partners, especially #Germany, because PL & the Baltic states correctly predicted Russia's aggressive behaviour,
3/15
while #German & other Western European stakeholders were reluctant to give credit for their correct analysis. As disturbing this lessoning behaviour might be from a German perspective, history demonstrated that #Poland & Baltics have a better understanding of #Russia ...

EOIR has ordered immigration court staff to remove CDC posters designed to slow spread of coronavirus.

No, this is not a parody account.
NAIJ had recommended to immigration judges that they post in courthouses the English and Spanish language versions of the CDC's "Stop the Spread of Germs" and "Symptoms of Coronavirus Disease 2019" posters. EOIR ordered that they be removed.
Here are links to the English language versions of the offending flyers:

Due process rights & #JudicialIndependence must be paramount in immigration court, where judges adjudicate asylum requests for those who fear life-threatening harm & discretionary relief requests that could subject American families to permanent separation. #ProtectDueProcess
“vulnerable people seeking asylum in the US depend on a functioning court system to protect them from persecution, torture & death. Yet, in the immigration courts, the tradition of #JudicialIndependence has been turned upside down.”@splcenter @ThinkLawLab ow.ly/TiZc30qhxhu
Our court system only works on a level playing field. Stacking the deck against asylum seekers with case completion quotas for judges is having a real and lasting negative impact on our judicial system. #JudicialIndependence #ProtectDueProcess

Dear @sjkaleta you’re in luck!

I’m an expert on #judicialindependence in French, ECHR and EU law so let me explain why you don’t know what you’re talking about (assuming you’re not here deliberately trying to mislead)

[thread]
@sjkaleta 2. Some very basic points: French law CANNOT justify (obvious) violations of the basic requirements of judicial independence established by French Constitution/EU law (or Polish law for that matter)

@sjkaleta 3. French law does NOT allow for any sanction against any judge who seek to apply EU law as interpreted by the ECJ case law all the more when we’re talking about judicial independence also strictly protected under FR Const (again this is obvious for all but liars and ignoramuses)
