If Samadhis were funerary monuments of saints in #Hindus, Chhatris were #Rajput's choice of the memorial. They made sure that the memory of the chivalry of their ancestors passed on to the next generations. Though, all Chhatris did not necessarily contain the mortal remains. 2/
Chhatri i.e. umbrella, first appeared as a canopy above the tomb in #Islamic #architecture. #Hindu kings transformed the tomb into Chhatri. By the 16th C, Rajput courts had started building Chhatris. It was a place where a noble was cremated, memorialized and later worshipped. 3/

For this long march, the Pakistani tanks were carrying extra fuel tanks and with their massive superiority in numbers, weren't expecting strong resistance at Longewala.

The fossils were discovered from the Jurassic rocks in the #Jaisalmer region of #Rajasthan. The rocks are between 160 and 168 million years old.
The crushing teeth represent a new species, named by the research team as 'Strophodusjaisalmerensis'.

The genus Strophodus has been identified for the first time in the Indian sub-continent, and is only the third such record from Asia—the other two being from Japan and Thailand.

#Longewala was held by a platoon of 14 BSF. However due to the looming war clouds, 'A' Compony, 23 PUNJAB under Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri was deployed in Oct 71. The rest of 23 PUNJAB (part of 45 Infantry Brigade) was deployed at Sadhewala.(2/n)

On 03 Dec #Pak 51 Brigade Group began to advance with 38 Cavalry & 22 Cavalry to capture Ramgarh & #Jaisalmer respectively. While the two armoured regiments reached Gabar (inside #Pak) by 0100h on 04 Dec, the rest of the forces could not. (3/n)
