There is an obvious pathway for the @JoeBiden to rehabilitate its international reputation and change the subject from its debacle in Afghanistan. I.E. to focus on preventing a new foreign policy catastrophe in Ethiopia.

Thread follows....
At least since 1991 and the fall of the DERG, which coincided with the fall of disintegration of the Soviet Union, Ethiopia, and the TPLF led governments which followed have been been close allies to the U.S.
This long-standing relationship deepened in the years after the 9/11 attacks in 2001 and became a partnership for counter-terrorism.

Sorry I missed this before jumping to @Amnesty's defence, which doesn't mean I am completely resiling from it as its a bit complicated.

First though @jeffpropulsion's piece is amazing, and says what needs to be said. 50 Claps. Magnificent.

Jeff Pearce knows this subject. Knows Ethiopia. Knows the TPLF far better than I ever will. His post is impassioned and clear, and echoes many of the things I am thinking but do not have the confidence to say.

Particularly about the information war.
While it is of course easy to conclude from this that @Amnesty knows they have been hoodwinked, and have proceeded to lie because they are being paid.

@JeffPropulsion isn't saying this as far as I can tell. And it may well not be the case.

This is what the IC want. And yet the IC remains muted, almost silent as 250 are killed in #AfarMassacre

@UNSG @StateDept @eu_eeas

A new democracy was born on summer solstice. But eight months earlier a group of malignant thugs with a long history of malignant thuggery....
... including many commanders of the armed forces who had sworn to be loyal to their lawful Govt. attacked their fellow soldiers in Ethiopia's National Defence Force stole heavy armaments and massacred an unknown number of their fellow soldiers.
The US Govt. initially condemned the rebellion, but changed their tune fairly quickly as it became clear that the ruthless thugs who they had supported for nearly three decades had not been quickly defeated as claimed.

Here is a reminder for those who are praising @AbiyAhmedAli et al for filling the #GERD:

Abiy has been getting away with a number of wrongdoings since he took office but I’m going to focus here on his mistakes relating to the GERD. 1/9

#ItsMyDam #FillTheDam #EthiopiaNileRights
Abiy was, and still is, manipulating the people by creating problems & later on blatantly portraying himself as the solution provider for the problems such as the ongoing issues with the #GERD. This is not only an insult to the people’s intelligence but utterly unacceptable. 2/9
There was no need for Abiy to put “the filling start date for the #GERD” for negotiation. Also, he shouldn't have allowed the likes of the US & the World Bank to meddle in the GERD saga (see below) and subsequently complicate matters for the GERD. 3/9

Without a doubt #ItsMyDam
But this situation just frustrates me. We all saw this problem from a mile away, we didn't understand why the US was allowed to be involved in this. And no one in government was willing to tell us why. Why is our patriotism always taken for granted? 1/8
Our govts have never been transparent about the deals & fights they get into,we're not worthy enough to be transparent with or give input but we're good enough to die when those deals fall apart. Up to this day does the public really know why Meles & Isaias fell through? No.
2/8
They had deals only they knew about, then our people died for their country when it didn't work out. Ethiopian citizens gave their hard earned money for this dam without question because it was sold as a patriotic call but there are no explanations when accusations of misuse 3/8
