Thread...People are critical of #China enforcing its citizens to speak #Mandarin, however locals can still speak dialects in #Xinjiang #InnerMongolia and #Tibet but if you can’t speak the national language of the country you live in, what future job prospects do you have?
When I lived in #Shanghai for 7 years, all locals speak Shanghainese, they love their local dialect, but TV, radio, schools are #Mandarin only, this is important as it’s the language that unites this diverse country of #China
#Mandarin is the most popular language around the world. Western families send their kids to Mandarin kindergartens, politicians like #DonaldTrump grandkids speak fluent Mandarin, but when #Chinese government enforces Mandarin in #China its consider a crime 🤔 #doublestandard

Latest from #Mongolia! The #InnerMongoliaUniversity held an emergency meeting on the protests against #CCP's decision to cancel Mongolian language instructions in #InnerMongolia schools. The following eight key points were made:
1. 1. This is an order from President #XiJinping.
2. The protest was induced by anti-Chinese separatists from outside the country. Those who collaborate with foreign forces need to be arrested.
3. Bilingual education is implemented in accordance with the wishes of the majority of Mongolian herders.
4. This was to fulfill a wish that Ullanf had left unfulfilled.
5. It is prohibited to mention that "bilingual education" is unconstitutional.
6. The relevant regulations in the Constitution will be amended in the future.

On Apr. 21, 2020 @nytimes published this article with a timeline of the #coronavirus #COVID19. The only problem is, like most reporting in the #US so far, it does not go back far enough. It starts with Dec 31st.

Some reporters are starting to look farther back in Dec. for the #coronavirus timeline, but that may not be far enough back. @nytimes needs to coordinate their investigative journalism & broaden the research criteria to at least Nov. starting in-house...
