Women are amazing. In the vacuum created as traditional media abandoned women’s issues, women stepped up, and many have become expert ‘citizen-reporters’. Thanks to @tribunaltweets @StopfordianR and the tweeters #AdrianHarrop #FtP #FitnessToPractice @gmc
The lamentable tantrumming doctor has showed no insight, no remorse, no accountability for the impact of his actions on the women he intimidated and threatened. It will be a whitewash if he isn’t severely sanctioned #AdrianHarrop #FtP #FitnessToPractice @gmcuk
Last weekend, accompanying Prior (a chirpy Scouser) at a Trans Day of Remembrance, #AdrianHarrop made sure he was wearing his “t*rf repellant” badge. This alludes to spraying uncooperative women with a noxious, possibly corrosive chemical. Great imagery on #IDEVAW

On any day, but especially the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, centring women - centring women who have been killed by men - is not transphobic. #IDEVAW
A minimum of 348 UK women have been killed by a man or where there is a male suspect since that last known person with a transgender identity was murdered on 11 January 2019.
This, apparently, is @Amelia_Womack’s offending tweet.

A woman weeping for murdered women.

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and women in Turkey have been on the frontlines to fight for their hard-earned rights when it comes to protection against violence this year. #IDEVAW
Murders of women have increased by 1,400 percent between 2002 and 2009 in Turkey, and recent years have seen an average of 400 femicides a year.

According to the WHO, 38% of women in Turkey are subject to domestic violence. #OrangeTheWorld
Instead of advocating for women’s rights, Turkey’s President Erdoğan decided to withdraw from the ‘Istanbul Convention’ last July, which was the first legally binding instrument that “creates a comprehensive legal framework and approach to combat violence against women.”

For people saying 126 women killed this year with a male suspect.... thank you for highlighting men's fatal violence against women.
It's already 127.
#IDEVAW #CountDeadWomen
I only add women after a man has been charged, or in cases where the suspect has killed himself, where the police (or similar) suggest that he is thought to be responsible.
I don't want to make mistakes, be accused of inflating what is already an atrocity or contempt of court.
This morning, I awoke to the news that a man has been charged in relation to the death of Jennifer Chapple (and her husband) and there are at least two other women dead where men are in custody and may be charged today.

Behind the Arab gulf states’ shining towers sits a patriarchal fiefdom that has revived slavery in the 21st century. #IDEVAW
The Kafala system in the Gulf means that employers pretty much “own” their female domestic workers.

Verbal abuse, physical abuse and rape are rife. When the female workers fight back, they are sentenced to death for murder.
Only 2 weeks ago, a Saudi man was caught on tape attempting to rape his Kenyan domestic worker. #OrangeTheWorld

One (of the many) key reasons we cannot address male violence has been the movement in the last decade or so in policy, local authorities, charities and services to urge professionals and academics to stop using the term ‘male violence’ because it’s ‘offensive’.

#IDEVAW
I was told by a local authority that they teach all staff that ‘domestic abuse is a gender neutral issue that happens equally to men and women’ - when I challenged them, they said that it was offensive to say that most perps were men, and most victims were women.
I replied to say that facts are not offensive, and that we had to be able to talk about the national and international stats/evidence of violence against women and girls - but they said that they would prefer it to remain ‘neutral’

(Neutral = factually incorrect)

More & more violent men and their defenders are twigging that they can use trauma, ‘ACEs’ and their own experiences of abuse to justify their violence against women & girls.

We must not let this narrative succeed or become accepted in practice, theory or legislation

#IDEVAW
We have decades of psychological theory which contests this, but it’s an easy and seductive explanation for male violence against women - and so many people accept it to be true under the whole ‘hurt people hurt people’ message.

This doesn’t stand up to basic logic though…
If it was true that victims of abuse and male violence went on to be violent criminals themselves, the majority of all violent offenders would be women and girls. As victims, they outnumber men, but men make up 97-99% of all violent offenders.

Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women #IDEVAW We are committed to campaigning for an to violence against women and girls, to ensure women can self-organise and that our voices are heard in policy/law-making and that the law works for women. /1
Here is a link to our manifesto which lists all our campaign demands. In this thread, we will post the actions we think are needed as a minimum to start to address the violence and abuse women and girls face on a routine and systemic basis. womansplaceuk.org/wpuk-manifesto… /2
Recognise prostitution as sexually abusive exploitation which is harmful to all women and girls. #IDEVAW #IDEVAW2021

Nov 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. In Nov 2013, I wrote this blog about why it's the IDEVAW, not White Ribbon Day. I announced that on 25/11 I would be commemorating all women suspected to have been killed by men kareningalasmith.com/2013/11/17/25t…
This year, for the 9th consecutive year, I will commemorate all UK women suspected killed by men since #IDEVAW last year at @CountDeadWomen.
Starting with Hansa Patel, killed 25 Nov 2020,and every 5 minutes naming another woman and where poss her photo, I'll still be going at 7pm
The first time, I named a woman every 10 minutes, if I did that this year, it’d take more than 22 hours.
And that is for the UK alone.

On this "International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women" (#IDEVAW), we urge the int’l community to pressure the #Iran-backed #Houthis to stop their various & vicious #crimes perpetrated against #women in #Yemen. 1/3
Indeed, any fundamental investigation by the intl media & key reporting agencies will easily ascertain how #women have been unjustly subject to #abductions, #arrests and #abuse by the #Houthis in #Yemen. 2/3
#IDEVAW
And if #IDEVAW stood for [“Intimidation Deprivation Exploitation Violation Against Women”], this too would accurately reflect the other types of abhorrent mistreatment that #Yemeni #women have faced from the #Houthis. 3/3

Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Violence against women is preventable.

Its elimination is possible.

Prevention is possible because we can all take action.

#IDEVAW #IDEVAW2020 #VAW #PVAW
We can all #DoSomething to create an Australia where women and their children live free from violence, but no one individual, community, organisation or government can do it alone.

It takes a shared, consistent approach to addressing gender inequality.
Because gender inequality is deeply entrenched in our culture, society, community, and daily lives, and it drives this violence.

Meanwhile feminists get kicked off twitter for using pronouns because priorities.

Another feminist, this one a medical doctor, silenced by twitter.
Could be for stating a biological fact such as "Women don't have penises" or "Men don't menstruate" or something equally reprehensible.
Who knows. Dude bros at @Twitter won't say.

And @Twitter shuts down another feminist. I followed this account, it was a good one.

Meanwhile nazis and fascists tweet merrily away.
