The results of the @IATSE vote on their Basic Agreement and Area Standards Agreement have arrived. They have passed, but only by the most tenuous of margins (and the even more tenuous systems of their electoral college.)

Based on the popular vote alone, the Basic Agreement was actually narrowly voted down in the popular vote, with 49.6 percent voting “yes” and 50.4 percent voting “no”. There is a lot to process with this result.

This was not a rousing mandate for this new contract. Working conditions in our industry are degrading at a rapid rate, and only through a militant labor movement can we truly challenge the bosses and fight for workers rights.

They'll probably keep talking today and tomorrow but if there's no vision of a deal by Friday then they'll cut it off.

You would've thought that the 99% of 90% vote to authorize a strike would've moved the needle in a real way but it feels like it hasn't.

I am announcing that unless an agreement is reached, 60,000 @IATSE film and tv workers will begin a nationwide strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on Monday, October 18 at 12:01 a.m., PDT. #IASolidarity
We will continue bargaining with the producers this week in the hopes of reaching an agreement that addresses core issues, such as reasonable rest periods, meal breaks, and a living wage for those on the bottom of the wage scale. #IASolidarity
However, the current pace of bargaining doesn’t reflect any sense of urgency. Without an end date, we could keep talking forever. @IATSE film and tv workers deserve to have their basic needs addressed NOW. #IASolidarity

They are fighting for safe working conditions, reasonable work hours and fair pay.
"...but you guys get paid for it, right? They have to pay you extra if you don't get what you want?" When you're hungry, tired and sleep deprived for weeks on end, there comes a point when the compensation isn't worth it.
HI ALL! I was busy all morning but now I’ve got TIME so buckle up and settle in for a #IALivingWage #IASolidarity mega thread. Grab some popcorn and crack your fave La Croix, because I’ve been on the ground in the Local 871 negotiations committee and I’ve got A LOT to talk about.
The support and solidarity I’ve found in the committee, throughout our local, and from our IATSE brothers and sisters at large has been remarkably empowering and encouraging, so much so that I volunteered to speak publicly to the AMPTP regarding our #IALivingWage initiative.
What follows is that statement, slightly abridged. I fear it mostly fell on deaf ears, so I wanted to share it here. If nothing else I hope it shows anyone struggling to make it in Hollywood that you are not alone and that we are fighting hard to make things better for all of us!
Some of you may be aware that the IA and AMPTP are resuming negotiations July 6th. In light of this I'd like to share a THREAD about what we are working to get the AMPTP to acknowledge. #IASolidarity #PayUpHollywood #Local871
871 Represents a variety of crafts from Writers Assistant and Script Coordinator to Script Supervisors, APOCs, Art Department Coordinators and even Teleprompters. We are mostly female and our #ReelEquity study found we are paid much less than men comparable crafts.
.@IATSE believes that no union member should make less than a living wage, but currently four 871 crafts' (Writers Assistants/Script Coordinators/APOCs/Art Dept. Coordinators) base rates FOR A 52 WEEK YEAR fall below the LA Dept. of Housing's low income threshold.
