Forms of women’s competition were somewhat different than we experience in 2020 A.D.
Contests revolved around two key aspects of #Egyptian life:
1. Food acquisition- #hunting & #fishing
2. Entertaining - #acrobatics

True #sports for women really began in Ancient Greece during the Classical period (400 B.C.). Unmarried girls had their own private competitions - also at Olympia every 4years.
These were separate from the men’s games.

Today CAS released its full (redacted) ruling in @caster800m's appeal of testosterone rules. @iaaforg argued Semenya is "biologically male." Semenya told court, that "hurts more than I can put in words." She also accused #IAAF of using her as a "human guinea pig" and "lab rat."
CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) said "this case involves a collision of scientific, ethical and legal conundrums. It also involves incompatible, competing rights." At issue: should women athletes w/naturally high testosterone have to suppress those levels to compete.
More from CAS ruling: male/female divisio in sport "does not map perfectly onto the diverse spectrum of sex characteristics that exists in human biology." But CAS agrees w/#IAAF that testosterone gives an "insuperable advantage"; rules are "necessary, reasonable, proportionate."
