Keith Pitt attacks Labor’s $15 Billion National Reconstruction Fund saying “there is not $15 Billion in this fund!” because it’s $10 billion being allocated with $5 billion to start with.🤦‍♂️
Labor’s Peter Khalil helps Pitt do the math.
“10 + 5 = 15” 🤣🤣

Greens’ Max Chandler-Mather stands up to make a point of order on relevance as Tanya Plibersek answers Q on the safe guard mechanism.
Speaker warns him that Plibersek is being relevant so the point of order can’t be on relevance.
Max: “on relevance”
Bang, straight out. 🥾
Meanwhile Angus Taylor carefully avoids Chalmers and asks his question to the PM.

I’ve never seen a shadow treasurer so petrified of a Treasurer, this is extraordinary.

1/ This fight over @GOPLeader isn't really about McCarthy (though for some of the 20 it is). What this is about is the pending #debt ceiling fight likely in February. Here's what's going on (a thread)...
@GOPLeader 2/ 'Twas the night before Xmas (not exactly but close enough) & all thru the night, lobbyists were skulking the decorated hall of Congress, looking for handouts for their special interests. Everyone on Capitol Hill wanted to go home for the holidays so, w/o much debate,
@GOPLeader 3/ A group of elected officials pushed through a $1.7 Trillion spending bill w/o debate or even so much of a "Dear Colleague" letter. It was imperious. What upset some on the Hill the most was that the spending bill was chock full of goodies for Left-wing special interests.

#OTD in 1864 the House passed the Wade-Davis Reconstruction bill. The House version of the bill was written by Rep. Henry Davis of Maryland. By this time Congress attempted to preemptively take control of post-war policy, creating a rift with President Lincoln.
Lincoln issued the "Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction" on December 8, 1863. It required only 10 percent of a seceding state's population to take an oath of loyalty before a new state government could be formed. These states would also be required to abolish slavery.
Radical Republicans in Congress felt Lincoln's plan was too lenient and began crafting legislation of their own to address the issue. They asserted that Confederate states were not states, but conquered territory. Lincoln maintained that those states never legally seceded.

Last month, the @HouseDemocrats impeached Donald John #Trump. When they did so, they adopted a resolution proclaiming that their impeachment was done in the name of the #HouseofRepresentatives and in the name of, and for, the United States of America.
That formula, explaining that the House impeached someone and did so in the name of the House and in the name of the United States, is common. Yet the assertion is troubling.

Half or more of the country disapproves of the House’s impeachment, and of the Senate’s trial.
But politicians will still claim they are doing it for us.

They aren’t.

And it is particularly urgent that we repudiate the idea that the House’s 2021 #impeachment of #DonaldTrump was in our name.

Time to start a thread ID’ing the leaders of the #WannaBeCoup of #January6th:

1. Donald #Trump.

“You’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong … I know everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building.
2. @DonaldJTrumpJr.

“The people who did nothing to stop the steal. This gathering should send a message to them: ....This is Donald Trump’s [party]. If you’re gonna be the zero & not the hero, we’re coming for you & we’re going to have a good time doing it!”

#WannaBeCoup
3. @EricTrump.

“Have some backbone. Show some fight. Learn from Donald Trump. And we need to march on the Capitol today. And we need to stand up for this country. And we need to stand up for what’s right.”
