The first letter is about the additional ÂŁ100m in quality-related research (QR) funding and ÂŁ70.65 million in Research Capital Investment Fund (RCIF) grants â both going to support higher education providers. Read the letter: orlo.uk/gGWUf /2

Germany and Denmark want the Commission to scrap all eligibility conditions for participation in space and certain quantum calls, arguing that setting these rules in the Horizon Europe's work program would âprejudiceâ the negotiation for the association of non-EU countries.
Setting those conditions would also mean not all countries associated to Horizon Europe would enjoy the same level of access â a principle Germany and Denmark believe the EU should hold. âWe especially embrace the point ⊠that we should treat all Associated States as equals.â

While not perfect, a deal of this size remains good news, no doubt about it. The details will have to be reviewed, but the cuts of #HorizonEurope & #health expenditure in times of #COVID19 show the limited foresight and worrying priorities of some leaders.

More worrying than the result, however, is the process. It should not take a 90h marathon for 27 leaders busy w/ a pandemic, months into a crisis, to agree on a watered-down version of a #RecoveryFund w/ threats and vetoes. This is not an efficient & democratic process. #EUCO
This #EUCO makes ever more imperatives the reforms @VoltEuropa and others have been calling for: create a #fiscalunion and #politicalunion, empower the @Europarl_EN, replace the @EUCouncil w/ an elected senate, allow true #Europeanparties and create a #federalEurope. #IamEuropean
