Virupaksh is Swayambhu.
Ravan in Tretayug asked Shiva to come with him to Lanka, Shiva gave him Shivling saying it shouldn’t be put on ground before reaching Lanka, Ravan en route put it down for a moment & couldn’t move it again.
Its here that Sita ji dropped her ornaments.

Girish Karnad claims in his play #Rakshasatangadi the temple destructon in Hampi was an "insider job"- citing still Virupaksha temple stands tall.

So can he explain why the #Nagareshwara temple in #Halebeedu is totally razed to the ground, while #Hoysaleshwara is mostly intact? Image
Here both shines were Shiva temples. There could be multiple reasons - Nagareswara for being the personal temple where the Kings worshipped was targeted first, and before they finished the job the Hoysala troups were able to guard Hoysaleshara? Your guess is as good as mine.
But the point is so called sahitis from Karnataka have normalized these to based on some random paper by one prof in Columbia. This is due to the white-skin-infliction. Where is thinking power when we need it?

Sorry to say the same trend in the latest historical novel as well.

Vijayanagar Empire: Architects of South India #vijaynagarmpire #hampi #southindia #architecture
Once there were two brothers, Harihara and Bukha raya. They were both from Hampi, in Karnataka on the banks of the river Thungabhadra.
They both knew that their city needed an empire and hence laid the foundations of the great Vijayanagara empire. The empire is named after its capital Vijayanagara, which is modern day Hampi. Harihara became the first ruler and conquered many parts of the country.

#Hampi is an experience, hard to describe in words or through pictures. But, can’t help sharing what I did today. Walked through the magnificent history of Vijayanagara Samrajya (1336-1646). EACH stone of Hampi is a story in itself.

#Thread

1. Stone Chariot, Vitthala Temple.
2. Absolutely stunning single-stone carved structures. And, these are giant.

Here, single stone carved doors (with locking system), which used to be at the entrance of the Royal Enclosure in #Hampi.
Single stone 22 feet tall Laxmi Narsimha idol at #Hampi. Originally, Laxmi idol was sitting on its left side. See second pic. That is how it was supposed to be.

A linga surrounded by 108 miniature lingas! Carved on rock on the banks of the Tungabhadra. Those who haven't been to #Hampi have missed the finest Indian heritage site of all. #Karnatakatrail. ImageImage

#Karnatakatrail: Another fascinating figure from my fav place in #Hampi - the 16th century CE Achyutaraya Temple. 3-headed octopus like figure, the headbands looks distinctly like those of #Inca figures. Image
Attended an eye-opening talk last week by historian Dr. Vasundhara Kavali-Filliozat with the most interesting input being that 'Vijaynagara' is an incorrect name for the empire. The real name was 'Karnataka Desha'. We have been using an incorrect name all along! #Karnatakatrail
If what Dr. Filliozat and other historians say is indeed correct, it seems we have been calling the empire by a wrong name right through. Also, the capital has been known at diff times as Vijaynagara, Virupakshapuram and also, Hampi. #Karnatakatrail

Drove from #Bangalore to #Hospet, a distance of 350 km, on March 25th to see the #Hampi ruins. Instead of going back via Chitradurga, turned onto NH 150A from NH 48 at Hiriyur. The Hiriyur - Hospet stretch has much less traffic compared to Chitradurga-Hospet. #IndiaRoadTrip
Soon after crossing Hiriyur en route to #Hospet (near #Hampi), the landscape transformed itself dramatically. There were beautiful craggy hills and fields with the characteristic red soil of the region, with moderate to scanty vegetation. #IndiaRoadTrip
The #Hiriyur to #Hospet route goes close to #Bellary (now #Ballary), w/ its many mines of the best quality iron. Saw trucks transporting iron ore plying on this route. Incidentally, Bellary has often been in the news for rampant illegal mining & export of iron ore. #IndiaRoadTrip
