(2/5) Originally, an Archaic-period temple sat on the site. Made of tufa, it was destroyed c. 480 BCE during the #Persian invasion of Greece. Despite being destroyed, the Athenians placed a captured Persian trireme on its ruins following the allied Greek victory in 479 BCE.
(3/5) Today, the surviving temple was constructed between 444 - 440 BCE, and serves as one of the major monuments of the Athenian golden age. Later described by Strabo as a "noteworthy settlement", it remained a significant cult centre into the #Roman imperial period.
If we are to look for the origins of the #Yoginis, it appears that we must turn to the simple village cult & to the #GramaDevatas/ #GramaDevatis, the local village #gods & #goddesses. In villages of #India they are the favoured #deities

The #iconography indicates this #stone image to be the Snake God - #NaagDevta - but the presence of #Sun & #Moon is intriguing as that’s not how the Snake God is usually represented. Is this some other #God or any other form of the Snake God?@jhowesuk @LaliMAndrade @BL_VisualArts

All different races of Mankind are derived from Manu and Shradha. The current Manu is Vaivasvata Manu.

2/ The word Manu literary means man but it is a title given to the progenitor of mankind. According to Hindu Puranas there are many kalpas (One day of Lord Brahma the creator) and each Kalpa has 14 manvantara and each manvatara has one manu. So basically each Kalpa has 14 Manus.
3/ The current manu of the present manvantara is Shraddhadeva or Vaivasvata Manu of this current Kalpa. He is the son of Vivasvat (Probably Surya) and is therefore also known as Manu-vaivasvata.
