“Roses have their own language and are a classic choice when it comes to gifting," says Mukund Thakar, a floriculturist #Pune who launched the #PawnaPhulUtpadakSangh that helps farmers diversify their produce and earn in lakhs.

#FarmersFirst #Inspiration #ValentinesWeek #Flora
A progressive farmer and a role model for farmers, Mukund has provided jobs to the local youth, both men and women, and stopped migration.
While #floriculturists worldwide nurse a desire to send their flowers to developed markets, especially to countries like #Holland, the Sangh has been exporting flowers since 2013. Asked how you impress your Valentine.“Go for a 60cm-sized flower bud, one of our best,”says Thakar.

Winnowing in progress on one of our rice farms in Jere, Kaduna.

In grain preparation, winnowing is the post harvest process done after threshing. It is done to separate the grain from chaff and dirt using the wind.

The wind direction is a very important factor in the winnowing operation.

As seen in this video, the farmers are winnowing in the direction that the wind is blowing. Winnowing will not be effective if the grains are winnowed in the opposite direction of the wind. #thriveagric
Notice how excited our farmers are to be working on a Friday?😏 Could it be because it’s the end of the month and a new farming cycle is about to begin?🤔

Well, this is our reminder to you, not to spend all your money this salary weekend because the wait is almost over🕺🏽 ImageImage

We’ve heard that some other tomato companies are setting up greenhouses as nurseries in northern Nigeria, so we thought it might be beneficial to explain and share our own process too! Tomato Jos has been using this system for 5 years 😊

Step 1: de-clump your potting substrate.
We use a type of peat moss (not pat moose 😉) that we bring into the country from Europe. We have tried other types of potting substrate including coco peat and a mixture of soil and manure, but have found that for us, this product works best. It’s highly water absorbent. 💧💦
Step 2: Adding water to the potting substrate

The peat moss is mixed with water. When we drop our seeds in, they will need moisture to germinate. So we get our potting substrate nice and wet all the way through.
