Away in The Commons
The MPs did sit
Voting for bills that would
make the people's lives sh*t
We need fair pay and staffing
The workers did cry
But the ministers didn’t listen
And did nothing but lie

As the weekend starts and we all reflect on the strikes this week I feel it's important to say I support all the strikes but I have to be honest my heart belongs to the Nurses.
Yesterday I had a frightening experience that really brought home to me
What an absolute mess the NHS is in.
Going to the chemist to pick up my prescription I was informed that my heart medication was not available,
I need this medication to stay alive!.
On the phone five hours later I had sourced some.
In the greater scheme of things it may seem
Small but for me it was frightening.
This is the fault of this government for the years of underfunding and Brexit.
There's lots of medication shortages I fear it's going to get worse.
Again we suffer at the hands of this lying, theiving ,odious government incompetence.

What a week its been.
The Tories are continuing their gaslighting and lying ,some things never change.
I'm hoping everyone understands the INDEPENDENT pay review is NOT! I'll repeat NOT! independent ,
It will not cost £28 billion to give essential
Services a decent payrise.
In actual fact it's approx £14 billion.
where is Michelle Mone? Could she could pay back the money she stole?, then we could pay essential services a decent payrise.
It's time for change, it's time for a #GeneralElectionNow #EnoughlsEnough

Evidence is emerging that the government intervened just as a deal was being agreed with the rail workers that stopped the deal going ahead, why would they do that?

Today is another cold day with little hope of our government doing what's right for this country, they just want us to suffer don't they.
The government repeating the lie that it would cost £28 bn to give these payrise's when a fiscal study says it's
Actuslly £8.5 bn, why do they do they do this?,why are they using everything available to stand behind and blame, the unions, review body, why won't they just do their job and negotiate, they want this country divided, division causes weekness we have to stay strong #StrongerTogether
#SupportTheStrikes #FairPayforNursing #FairPayForAll
MSM reporting and interviewing people against the strikes is yet more gaslighting, don't fall for it,stay strong.

Happy Sunday 😊
It's still really cold,stay warm.
A sad day when the unions are begging the government to negotiate so the strikes won't go ahead, during this already really difficult winter.
Will the government at last step up?,I don't think so,will
People see that it is the government who are forcing the strikers into a corner, with no way to go,they just want a reasonable payrise so they can pay their bills, come on government do what's right for this country for once ,do your job,try and do what's fair for a change.
How did the independent review body come up with their figure?,you do knowc their sent figures by the government as guidance, so not so independent!. #FairPayForAll #GeneralElectionNow #FairPayforNursing

Today is day five of holding this odious government to account
Strikes are not just about pay it's about conditions, poverty, job security, royal mail cannot afford to give their workers a payrise but did however give their shareholders and managers
£600 million in 2022,there's no money however for the people who actually do the work, walking in all winds and weather's.
It's hideous that Sunak even suggested that nurses, paramedics, postal workers, railway staff, border force staff are our enemies, they are fighting for all
Of us,
we should be grateful, they are willing to fight for every disrespected worker in the UK.
Anyone suggesting the unions are "spoiling Christmas" needs to stop gaslighting this country.
This is a battle between the government and people who are concerned about surviving

Today is day four of holding this odious government to account...
The strikes over Christmas are going to affect an awful lot of our lives,I personally support all the Strikers, people using food banks to feed their families is absolutely disgusting
This government is continuing to disrepect every worker getting out of bed to go and work sometimes a very difficult job, imagine ending your working week having to arrange a time to go to a food bank so you can feed your family, imagine after you've dragged your children to a food
Bank returning home to a cold home where you don't take your coat off bundling your children under quilts so they get and keep warm.
Why should they accept this at their lives,MP'S had a pay increase this year,in fact they've had one for several years while the hard working

Today @SteveBarclay appeared across news programmes to spread falsehoods about nursing, and reiterate his refusal to negotiate on pay.

So Health Secretary, we want to remind you of the facts:

🧵(1/6)
#FairPayforNursing
A pay rise for nursing staff is affordable.

FACT: the Exchequer would receive 81% of pay rise for nursing staff back through taxes, increased spending and savings on recruitment and retention.

(2/6)
#FairPayforNursing
The NHS is in crisis and patient care is not safe.

FACT: in a survey of over 10,000 nursing staff earlier this year our members told us 83% of shifts were short staffed. Only 25% of shifts had the full number of planned registered nurses on shift.

Let’s talk #strike not one person wants to strike!!! What we want is to do our jobs with fair pay, decent conditions to have enough money to pay the bills and feed our kids!!! We want recognition for the amazing job we do day in day out…. 1/
#EnoughlsEnough
Our jobs aren’t easy, we take them home in our heads and our hearts because it’s what we do!!! WE CARE!!! We just want #FairPay along with hospital staff, firefighters, rail workers, civil servants, postal workers, care workers. All those who keep this country running…,,2/
This government seem to forget that we are the ones who work for the people and those people do appreciate us even if those in power care only about their money. It’s time for action. It’s time!!! #EnoughlsEnough #FairPayOrFireStrike #FairPay4HomeCare #FairPayforNursing

Key points about the #NursesStrike - a thread from a nurse!

- More Nurses than ever are leaving the profession
- England along has over 46,000 nursing vacancies
- Staff shortages effect us all
- understaffing compromises patient safety

#FairPayforNursing #EnoughIsEnough #NHS
@theRCN and it's members will ensure patient safety throughout any strike action.

For many years patient safety has been at risk and Nurses pour in extra time and energy to try and minimise that risk, but it gets harder and harder and something has to change. @SouthEastRCN
Nursing pay has been rising below inflation for years meaning real term pay cuts. This correlates directly with less nurses staying in the job.

Nursing requires a degree to enter, and experience takes many years to gather. We have to retain and fairly pay experienced nurses

As a librarian, it's my job to help distinguish reliable & accurate sources of information & debunk misinformation (regardless of intent) & disinformation (intended to mislead). With the @theRCN members voting to strike, let’s look at some of the misleading information. A thread🧵
Nursing is a highly skilled graduate profession, not a vocation. It is risk-oriented & patient safety focused. There’s a lot of talk about nurses being paid on average £35,500. That figure is indeed an average; it takes into account the most highly specialised nurses & managers.
In Wales, newly qualified nurses start on band 5 at £27,055 & progress to £32,934 after 4 years, which is the highest salary they can receive, without applying for a new job at a Band 6. Here’s a link to the NHS pay bands 2022-23: bit.ly/3UvgMqN

Together we are stronger.
What I do believe is that as a workforce, we can stand up together and let our voice be heard.
I am worried about a chronically underfunded & understaffed NHS.
I am worried for some of my junior colleagues! Image
I see nurses who can't afford housing. I see nurses who can't afford to feed themselves and their families without working extra shifts.
I see people coming INTO work exhausted, not just at the end of their shifts.
I see patients affected by that.
As nurses, we want to be able to have time to care for your loved ones, or you. We want to be able to do this safely and in such a way that we are not overtired and worried about how we will afford time off work to recharge.
I wasn't going to tweet about this & just vote quietly

LONG THREAD 1/12

Over the next few weeks there will be a lot of bad press fired at nurses and many who work within the NHS. For those who don’t work in healthcare, I wanted to help give some facts and context in support of my nursing friends/colleagues:
- In 2022/23, a newly qualified nurse will leave University with an average student debt of £50k.

- Their starting salary in the NHS will be £27,055.

- They will pay mandatory £120 for NMC registration to practice every year.
- They will pay between £200-500/yr in parking fees (depending on Trust) before even stepping through the front door.

- They will pay £15-£20/month for Union membership and professional indemnity.

UKRNs What do you’all think about the upcoming strike?

For those who don’t know about the strike…

RCN and Unison Nurses will be going on an *Industrial strike*

Using the *Working rule* This means doing no more than the minimum required by the T & Cs of your contract
Will this really work? Considering the fact that employers can replace staff with Agency staff?? Who will be glad

Now, MPs are already planning to approve replacing staff shortage with Agency/ bank staff

RCN has also stated they will be paying RCN members at least £50 per day?
For unpaid hours by the employers???

Your employers also have the right to hold pay for hours you don’t work… pension might also be affected?

How long do you think this approach will last? Will this strike really work?
