I'm in downtown #Eugene headed toward this planned event tonight starting at 7 p.m.

I'm exhausted and don't know how long I'll stay or Tweet though
There's around 30 people here. Many in black.
There are fifteen or so counter protesters taking up the square and two are on our side peacefully talking with protesters.

One of them is pleading "please don't go through with this" and that he'll "put it out."

"That's why I came," he said.

On my way to Revolution Hall here in #Portland with @TheRealCoryElia to check out what's going on tonight for the @villageportland.
Just arrived and there's a VERY healthy sized crowd of a couple hundred here.
It appears that a march is getting under way.

With the far-right spreading ridiculous rumors about β€œANTIFA” starting the forest fires, this might be a good time to reflect on rumors and disinformation as a tactic of disruption.

The far-right is adept at weaponizing rumors and misinformation. Donald Trump is exemplary of this: he’s always just saying random shit that he himself may or may not believe is true, and that BS is reported as if it were fact by the right-wing media apparatus.
And of course his disciples and peers follow his lead, spinning conspiracy after conspiracyβ€”from QAnon to β€œantifa wildfires”. Right-wingers then use this batshit info to craft their worldview, and orient themselves towards certain actions. In response, the centrist and left media

Lemme editorialize for a sec:

Metro Voice News of Kansas City, MO dropped this article today about what happened at New Hope Bible College in #Eugene last week.

@RNGDave, @taylorgriggx and I were there.

Here's my issue:

metrovoicenews.com/oregon-christi…
- The headline "Oregon Christian college students stand firm against protestors attacking cross on campus."

Unless you consider grown men between the ages of 40 and 70, in "security squads" carrying guns and other weapons to be college students, I didn't see any.
Also counter to the claim that these were college students is the fact that one man, the only one who answered any questions, said that the men we were seeing were from the Oregon Patriots Militia.

When asked if they were officially contracted, he refused to answer.

I'll be live-tweeting for the @DailyEmerald from Washington Jefferson Park in #Eugene where a Speak-Up and Dribble event followed by a planned march will be happening.
Only a fraction of the pizzas that were just delivered. Image
A POC counter-protester wearing a jacket with the saying "Southern Pride" is waving his flag and yelling "White Lives Matter" as he walks by the event.

He's now being confronted by leadership.

THREAD: Some thoughts on "Unity"

There is almost no word as effective at cooling down the streets than "Unity"

"Unity" means we can't call out left-activists for their ineffective strategies and collaboration with the state and police. "Unity" means that us anarchists are told
that we can't air our critiques, try our tactics, and open the space up to unpredictability, unless we hurt "The movement"

It's a common tactic of left-activist types to get caught on the back foot by people leveling critiques at them and then try appealing for unity.
The truth is, there is no "unity" to be had with the leftist managerial class in the first place. Anarchists are not part of the same movement as them, though we may find ourselves on the streets together once in a while. What kind of unity can really be had with these people?

Suggestions for next steps after the momentum dies down in the streets:

Given that we have leveled critiques at those who would seek to crystallize the energy of "the movement" under their own agenda, we feel somewhat compelled to offer some alternatives to attending
endless street marches that accomplish nothing. These are merely suggestions and specific actions should always be tailored to your specific context. What works in Eugene won't necessarily work in Portland/Seattle/Salem/Corvallis, etc etc.
1. Create space for an organic conversation to develop about what occurred in your city these past weeks and how to move forward from there. This can take the form of assemblies, chats on encrypted video messengers, encrypted phone calls, walks in the park, and can be done with

On pointless marches and recuperation:
Given the public infighting in the various BLM/police reform groups in #Eugene, we feel there are points that are important to bring up re: marches/recuperation/ activists, that may help bring some clarity to the moment
#eugeneprotest
Though larger in scale, and messaging, this is not the first time in recent history the USA has seen a large wave of people of all walks of life hit the streets. Occupy '11, Ferguson/BLM '14-'16, and '16-'17 around Trump/fascism/Standing Rock are good examples of this.
These things follow roughly a similar trajectory: Large "unorganized" wave of people hits the streets with eclectic positions and tactics, the wave either burns itself out through attrition, repression, or both, and the NGO's/activist groups/party opportunists take the initiative
