This story is about the Hands off Point Peron @pointperon campaign against the proposed Mangles Bay marina development in Point Peron near Rockingham, Western Australia.
The campaign began in 2003, although efforts had been made from 1964 when Point (Cape) Peron was transferred from the Commonwealth to the State to be used for recreation/park lands.

The Commonwealth confirmed in 1968 that the land must not be used for private development.
In 2000 much of the land was classified as #Bushforever by the WA government.

However, in 2005 Landcorp proposed a residential and tourist marina including 500 boat pens, chalet-style accommodation and an entertainment precinct.

Welcome to the #EnvironmentalCampaign archive. This story is about a 20 year fight to protect a Bush Forever site at Underwood Avenue in Perth from development.
The 33 hectare Underwood Avenue Bushland in Perth contains Banksia, Jarrah, Tuart & Marri bush. This Banksia/Jarrah woodland is one of few remaining in Perth and is critical for survival of the flock of around 400 Carnaby’s Cockatoos.
The University of Western Australia (@UWA) received 258 hectares of bushland from the State Government in 1904. In 1999 UWA proposed a housing development on the site.

Welcome to the #EnvironmentalCampaign archive. This story is about the fight to stop a highway extension through WA’s #BeeliarWetlands.
The #RoeHighway was first drafted in 1955, with sections built over the next 50 years. The Roe 8 section was a 5km heavy-haulage route planned to pass through #BeeliarWetlands, 20km south of Perth, projected to cost $450 million.
Over the following years more people became aware of the loss of around 80% of #wetlands in the Perth region. In 1985 the Wetland Conservation Society (WCS) was formed after the unsuccessful Farrington Road Blockade failed to stop the loss of #bushland.

Welcome to the #EnvironmentalCampaign archive. This story is about the long running Hinchinbrook campaign to stop a marina/hotel development at Oyster Point near the #GreatBarrierReef.
It began with Keith William’s proposal to create a 250 berth marina, 1,500 dwelling canal estate and a resort with ‘million’ dollar ocean views, requiring the removal of mangroves and dredging for a marina and canal.
Friends of Hinchinbrook (FoH) formed to 1993 to stop the development. The mangrove trees were protected by small groups of activists on 24 hour rosters.Despite being designed as unsuitable for a boat habour in 1977, in 1994 the project was approved.
