El Paso is the heartbeat of the border, a city that unites cultures & languages. It shines as a beacon of hope for refugees, asylum seekers & immigrants from all over the world.
The shooting in El Paso was the deadliest assault on the Latinx community in history. Yet, gun violence fueled by white supremacy is still a clear & present danger.

Beautiful floral sculptures now stand in Ascarate Park in dedication to the lives lost in a horrid white supremacist attack 1 yr ago.

On that day we joined the El Paso community in taking a firm, collective step - el paso firme - to confront, to expose, and to reject the white supremacy that has infected our country.
Today we continue to stand strong alongside the folks of El Paso in their resilience.

This weekend’s cultural resistance in El Paso, Tx left us humbled & with a sense of renewed commitment and hope towards our fight for justice. We remain strong - firme - and resilient. Because no wall or cage can restrain a song. 🎶 Somos #ElPasoFirme! Check out the highlights 👇🏾 
We kicked off the events on Friday protesting outside a detention center by joining our voices with artists like @lasantacecilia, @Icryduringsex and @DosDueto who serenaded the migrants locked inside in a beautiful act of ❤️ and resistance.
That same day @BNHR hosted a heartwarming luncheon with visiting artists & families affected by the Aug 3rd shooting in El Paso.

📢🎶❤️We are calling on our sister communities across the country to join @BNHR and the El Paso communities in an exercise of collective compassion and solidarity on September 7th.
As communities of immigrants and refugees, El Paso has a place in all of our ❤️: A community that straddles borders & cultures, a symbol for safety and inclusion for people from around the world, citizens and non-citizens alike - a symbol of hope and of home.
That symbol was attacked on Aug 3rd.
Why?
2 tendencies have intersected that invariably lead to violence: The uncontrolled access to weapons of war that has enabled mass atrocities time and time again + the white supremacist political agenda at every Trump rally & tweet.

In the wake of the #ElPaso shooting, we’re in awe of the strength of this community in the face of violence and hate. At the same time, we should also acknowledge the incredible stress that these conditions have created for Latinx Americans, especially in El Paso. #ElPasoFirme

We know that those who profit from weapons sales, who despise gun control, are often the same profiteers who make millions arresting immigrants and caging children & families in concentration camps. They profit from the politics of hate and fear.
They want white people to fear immigrants and for immigrants to fear government.
We must be clear: We do not hate them, and we are also not afraid of them. We know that our courage will always be greater than fear.
