The relationship between Florida & Disney started
in 1965 when Walt began buying up worthless swampland in what was then the middle of nowhere

Disney wanted land, power, and control and they wanted it cheap!

Wasn't just cuz Walt wanted to build another Theme-Park,

“Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow”
or EPCOT

Disney wanted to build a self-sustaining 'imagineered' city where folks would live, work & play under the auspices of Disney
milwaukeeindependent.com/syndicated/cit… #disney #epcot
So under that premise, the Florida Legislature let Disney have independent autonomy under the

Reedy Creek Improvement Zone

Where Disney would be its own county gov, run its own police, fire, sanitation, etc without any of that messy local political oversight #disney #florida

I think a really great way to understand how the general public views museums as nation-building tools is to look at how fake museums are used in theme parks.
The clearest example to me is the Yeti Museum built into the queue of Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom, where the museum offers 'evidence' that primes you to be scared of the Yeti you're about to encounter. #EPCOT is based on the old World's Fair model, so nearly every pavilion has a mini-museum. In Future World, little science centers help you explore concepts like communication with games and interactives. Living with the Land is a ride-through agriculture exhibit. Image

1978 #Epcot Center brochure:
1/10

I love this cover. Note the white building to the left of Spaceship Earth - this was an early concept for the American pavilion which would have sat at the entrance to World Showcase in the 1978 design of Epcot!

To the farther left is The Land. Cover of the 1978 Epcot Cen...
1978 #Epcot Center brochure:

You can see the placement of the American Adventure in the model here. Note the Land model is closer to the final version - whereas the painting is the earlier version as proposed by Tony Baxter.

Here is a closer look of Tony Baxter's original concept of The Land as portrayed in the cover art (which is a Herb Ryman painting, I believe)

Time for an adventure set in my #Disneyland RPG, where the kingdom has been taken over by the Disney Villains.

First we need a protagonist! No one famous, or even particularly heroic, just a small someone doing their best to survive these dark days.

Someone like...
2. As one of the feral cats of #Disneyland, your life hasn't changed TOO much since the Villains take over. You leave them alone; they leave you alone. Meow meow.

This neverending thunderstorm has been QUITE bothersome, though, and you've had to seek shelter... but where?
3. The Skyway station is (relatively) warm and dry, and has been abandoned for so long that few in #Disneyland even remember it exists. Thus, the perfect place for a cat to nap.

Until tonight. Your rest is interrupted by someone ascending the stairs. You open one eye, and spy...
