Following my #EFL thread yday, here are 10 #NationalLeague players who need a move to revitalise their career

These are mainly players who 12 months ago had a very high stock, and who I believe are capable of hitting those levels again 🧵👇 Image
Cal Roberts

This one is the epitome of what this thread is all about. I have no doubt Cal Roberts is still a top, top player; he just needs the move to show it

He’s had an unlucky time in Scotland, & 12 months ago he was one of the best in the NL. A technically gifted attacker Image
Alex Lacey

12 months ago Lacey was seen as a top end NL defender, so much so that he got himself a move to the EFL despite missing out on promotion with Notts

It’s been a really poor 12 months for him, but a fresh move may unlock that defender once more Image

🧵Sensible Signings: #suttonunited

Another side that’s been highly requested in League 2 is Sutton United

Here I pick 5 players based on YOUR suggestions

Remember to comment your team + 5 positions below! 👇 Image
CB: Ludwig Francillette

Okay, he played in a side who finished far lower than Sutton. However I feel the towering centre back has a lot to offer them

The big defender looked impressive whenever he played & is available on a free. He’s also just 24, has good pedigree + potential Image
CM: Mo Sagaf

Out of contract in the summer, Dagenham midfielder Sagaf has plenty of ability, and a move to Sutton may provide him the chance to show it

Often used out of position, Sagaf is at his best when playing through the middle. The 25 year old has good technique too Image

Sheffield Wednesday memang berada di puncak klasemen League One. Namun mereka terlihat rentan.

John Mousinho: Tactical analysis, the mega-thread

This is without a shadow of a doubt my most ambitious and in-depth work on here to date, it took a hell of a lot of time to put together so I really hope you enjoy it!

All shares and feedback are appreciated! #Pompey #EFL
𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱
Despite being a relatively inexperienced coach, Mousinho’s positive impact has been clear to see in Portsmouth

Holding a UEFA pro license (if anyone has his thesis please send it to me) John is a very promising young coach who mixes pragmatism with bravery
𝟮-𝟱-𝟯 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲
At the start of his tenure, Mousinho lined us up with a 4-3-3 that became a 2-5-3 in-possession

We were crying out for this at the time, with Cowley rigidly sticking to a 2-man midfield which made us far more one-dimensional in-possession and easier to defend

🆕🧵With deadline day fast approaching I decided to do a thread of 10 #NationalLeague players I feel could make a late move to the #EFL

Let me know if you want any more transfer content before deadline day below - and if so what? 👇
10. Kyran Lofthouse

He’s only so low down the list because Woking are flying. Strong, quick and direct, Lofthouse is a superb right sided midfielder

He ranks 4th for dribbles per 90, and is also capable of playing RB. Seems to have lost his place of late, leaving the door open
9. Tyler Cordner

The first of a few CBs on this list. At 24 Cordner still has plenty of upside, but is already a very mature defender

Comfortable with the ball at his feet and bringing play out from the back, Cordner plays on the left of the CB pairing

Thread: Sheffield United defending philosophy at corner-kicks at Championship

Coach Paul Heckingbottom has his own strategy in defending at set-pieces, which makes the team solid.
Let's see 👇
-3 vs 3 man-marked on the edge of six-yard
#SAFC | #SHUSUN
Man-marked near to the goalkeeper.
#EFL | #SkyBetChampionship #twitterblades
-2 vs 2 man-marked on the far-post.

-A player to guard the near post

- Player for facing the runners and the second ball

After I put together a thread looking at the financial trends in the Premier League over the last 10 years from 2011 to 2020, a few people asked me if I could do the same for the EFL Championship. So here are the finances for England’s second tier over the last decade.
This analysis comes with caveats, as not all Championship clubs published accounts in the last decade, e.g. Derby County in 2019 and 2020. Also no accounts for clubs in administration, e.g. Portsmouth (2011 & 2012), Bolton Wanderers (2018 & 2019) and Wigan Athletic (2020).
Nevertheless, the themes and trends can still be highlighted, including the impact of COVID in the last three months of 2020. We will also feature some comparisons with the Premier League to illustrate the immense differences between England’s top two divisions.

Yesterday was another crazy day for #Football & specifically in this case, for #Derby #dcfcfans

#EFL ruling on their accounting practices

Threat of sanctions - What will that mean?

#RichardKeough ruling - They have to pay him £2.3m (bonkers episode)🤯

Then add in the farce of the #takeover process

A 29 year old front-man masquerading as an Instagram Billionaire (complete with macho boxing backstory & links to Indonesian investors & looted billions) #Suharto

I'm equally fascinated & frustrated by rogue investors in #EnglishFootball

I've read widely and spoken to people with genuine knowledge of the machinations of global finance💸

What puzzles me today is, how/why did #MelMorris get himself in this hole?😏

1/ With the playoff teams confirmed for this season, I wanted to look at how many points @QPR need to be targeting in order to break into the top 6 next season... #EFL #QPR
2/ Taking data from the last 5 @SkyBetChamp seasons (including this season, with points per game used to account for 46 matches), we can use logistic regression to determine the probability of finishing in the top 6, based on number of points won... #QPR #EFL
3/ The chart below illustrates this relationship between points and probability of top 6, i.e. if a team achieves 80 points (for example), then they’re almost certain to finish in the top 6. A team will likely need to achieve somewhere around 73 points to give themselves... #QPR

1/ Fancied illustrating how much @QPR have improved in the second half of the season, and in context to the rest of the @SkyBetChamp division. The chart below shows the difference in average goals scored per match between Matches 1-23 & Match 24 onwards... #EFL #QPR
2/ Goals scored per match increased from 0.96 to 1.31. Goals conceded per match (chart below) improved from 1.30 down to 1.00 between those periods. Both charts illustrate that @QPR are one of the most improved teams in the second half of the season... #EFL #QPR
3/ Obviously #QPR still have 7 games to play and things can change between now and the end of the season, but it’s a nice illustration of the improvement nonetheless #EFL @SkyBetChamp

Back in early September, I put out a team-by-team prediction for L2 thanks to @WeLoveBettingUK.

Roughly 17/18 games into the season, let’s see how good, and bad, my predictions are doing 😬

I’ll go from bottom to top of the actual table.
#EFL @d3d4football
24: Southend United (Predicted 24th)
#Blues have had it very tough so far. An embargo limited who could come in as they took 2 points from 11 games.

Recent form though is strong, and it’s taken them from well adrift to 1 point from safety. Not writing them off anymore...
#EFL
23: Stevenage (Predicted 21st)
I don’t think I’m too far off here. 21st is just 1 point away at the minute.

Have much more faith in this #StevenageFC team than I ever did last year and whilst they lack experience up front, defensively they’ve improved significantly overall.

1/ Despite 11 games undefeated (5 win, 6 draws) and 6th in the table, a minority of Brentford fans are wanting to sack Thomas Frank.

In the thread we'll breakdown, what I believe is different from last year and the struggles we've faced so far.

#BrentfordFC | #EFL
First of all, I'll be breaking down what I think is the problem/issues of this season into 3 sections.

1. Schedule & Fitness
2. Build up play
3. Personnel
Schedule and Fitness

After last years play off run ending on the 4/8/20, the Bees were back playing again on 6/9/20. A very limited pre-season, coupled with a run in the EFL cup, have meant the Bees played 22 games already (that's not even adding international breaks).

1/

I saw a story this week about @DerbyCounty_TT & their looming takeover - Sounds exciting!

Something really piqued my interest though

A couple of names in the report that I've seen before

#Offshore 🕵️‍♂️⚽️💸🌴 Image
2/

The two 'Shadow Brokers' who get fleeting mentions over the last 15 years as the cast of foreign ownership in English football has become increasingly... 'cosmopolitan' are;

*Chris Samuelson* & *Andrew Obolensky*

Who are they?

What do they do??

Why should we care??? Image
3/

Well, they've appeared in a few books I've read over the years, so I did some searches to try and understand more & connect the dots.

In a nutshell, they seem to be;

*FORMATION AGENTS*
*INNOVATIVE FINANCE PROFESIONALS*
*NETWORKERS/CONNECTORS*

Ipswich publish press release re accounts. Income up slightly despite relegation on back of 5% rise in commercial income following Rod Stewart concert at Portman Road & shirt sponsorship but still bottom 6 by Championship standards. #ITFC @Benjaminbloom
Over last 6 years Ipswich total income £98m but wage bill £102m. Ave wage up last season by 'only' £200pw but again low by #EFL #Championship standards where average wage is £15,600 a week. #ITFC
Because wages>revenue Ipswich lost £200,000 a week @AndyhHolt in 2018/19, taking total losses in last 8 years to £68 million. Suspect total Championship losses could be close to £600 million last season as some clubs go for broke to get promoted. #ITFC

Today is a sad one for all football fans, as the head of the #EFL. With that in mind I thought I’d set up the Shaun Harvey Appreciation Thread, or #SHAT for short, so fans can log their memories & thanks for all he’s done for the teams they support.
Bolton fans will give a 👏to Shaun for allowing Ken Anderson & Dean Holdsworth to pass the fit & proper test to take over their club. Apart from administration, a 12 point penalty, food banks for staff, loans at 24% interest, paying KA £525k as a consultant it’s been great #SHAT
Bury fans will high five Shaun for giving the 👍to Steve Dale to buy the club in Dec 2018 & stop paying players by... err...February 2019. The club now faces a winding up order on June 19th. Gives fans something to focus on whilst waiting for the fixtures to be announced #SHAT

One cunning item not mentioned by the #EPL in changing the distibution of overseas TV rights is the impact on lower league clubs. Previously they've had a % of the equal share but not the merit share of PL TV income. Under proposals some overseas TV income becomes merit (1/2)
This means any increase in overseas rights will result in clubs in Championship, League 1 and League 2 getting nothing and it is all kept by the PL clubs. For a club such as Accrington in L1 a £1bn annual increase in overseas would have meant an extra £473k a year. now it is FA
So when John Henry talks about being unhappy at Liverpool 'subsidising' other clubs, he means that all 20 PL clubs want share a £1,000,000,000 pa increase so likes of Preston, Stanley, Morecambe etc. do not receive anything. After all, £473,000 out of a billion is a lot isn't it?
